Title: Stephanie Roche goal nominated for FIFA Goal of the Season Puskas award
Post by: seafoid on November 12, 2014, 09:43:02 PM
http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/irish/2014/1112/658846-stephanie-roche-nominated-for-puskas-award/

Republic of Ireland international Stephanie Roche has beaten out the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to be nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal of 2014.
Roche is the only woman on the ten-person list for the prestigious award. She was recognised for her wonder-strike for former club Peamount United against Wexford Youths in the Bus Éireann Women's National League.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Roche, who now plies her trade with French First Division club ASPTT Albi, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for FIFA's best goal of the year.

Some brilliant goals there. Particularly the last one.

Bit like the one Crouch scored.

Lets give credit to the girl was a class goal.

However number 10 is the best one for me out of the bunch.
Ibrahimovic's goal also noteworthy for its uniqueness but his goals are so freaky now they are sort of cliched

Some great goals there - technically, Rodriguez's was probably the most difficult, but Stephanie Roche gets my vote.  Women's football is making good progress here - this might get it some more attention.

I'd say Roche's was more technically difficult due to the second touch lifting it over defender!

Generally for "best goal" awards, I factor in the stage, setting, opposition etc so would normally give to James or Cahill but think Puskas award is for "most beautiful" goal or something similar, so would love to see Roche win.

That was some strike. Normally with the ladies football, I find the goalies are brutal, but in that case no-one could have saved it.

It's well worth being in there, fair play to whoever at Fifa had the wit to include it.

I think I'd go for Stephanie Roche's goal out of the ten. Some great strikes but she had a couple of good touches to create the opening before a cracking strike.

I'm sure it wasn't included because Sepp Blatter was at the match. Shorts not short enough.

It was included in the 'Unbelievable Tekkers' slot on SoccerAM in the week it happened, so there was lots of exposure for it alright.  On Sky anyway.

Luis Suarez scored some goals last year that were as good as if not better than some of the goals in that list.
Ibrahimovic's goal is class never seen it before.

http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/01/12/twelve-people-arrested-after-failing-to-vote-for-stephanie-roche-in-fifa-goal-vote/

THANKS to emergency legislation put in place overnight by the Government, 12 treacherous bastards have been placed in prison following their failure to vote for Stephanie Roche's goal which is up for the FIFA Pukas Award.
The 'Roche 12′ were escorted through large crowds outside Pearse Street Garda station shortly after the 5.30pm voting deadline passed. There are unconfirmed reports that several of the detainees were injured by the angry mob.
"It's makes you f**king sick," shared angry mob attender and avid Twitter user Julia Nolan, "you have to vote for her, she's Irish and she scored a deadly goal!"
It is believed one of people arrested, Rory Hamlin, will face the death penalty as not only did he refuse to vote for Roche's goal in actually voted for James Rodriguez wonder strike for Columbia in the World Cup round of 16.
The legislation which punished all those Irish people who failed to vote for Roche also outlawed trying to judge each individual goal on their respective merits.
"Look, we're proud of Stephanie, and the goal and that's why we've made it illegal for you to try and like the other goals," explained a Government spokesperson.
"If you try to engage in the voting process rationally or in an objective manor, you will be punished and jailed," the spokesperson added.
In separate incidents, enthusiastic fans of Roche and her magnificent goal have been out in force intimidating anyone who had yet to vote for the Irishwoman.
It is believed many have forced the elderly to learn how to click a mouse, leaving them tied to a chair for hours with instructions to 'never stopping f**king clicking'.
Many people were so desperate for Roche's goal to win on merit alone that they actively sought ways to vote multiple times for the goals despite that being in clear violation of FIFA's rules.
"I'm not sure if it's connected to some sense of collective guilt that we as Irish people rarely give women in sport the support they deserve year round or throughout their career, so people get seriously over zealous," said a man under the condition of anonymity, such was his fear of an attack being carried out on him for speaking out.
WWN cannot confirm reports that Ivan Yates was murdered following the expression of an opinion earlier today.

That's a rotten thing to say mouview. Why do you think that? Everytime I've seen her or heard her speak she sounds like a pleasant, intelligent girl. She obviously didn't settle in Houston, and they couldn't afford to waste an overseas slot on someone who wasn't productive. She may well still make a living playing pro womens soccer in Europe or elsewhere. And if she does end up working in Penneys, why would that make her stupid?

She left the French team herself, and went to Houston because she knew the Puskas publicity would be good for her. That's not a stupid move. It just didn't work out for her. Look, she may not be good enough to be a pro, time will tell there, but that's hardly reason to impugn her intelligence? She's trying to carve a life for herself in sport, and is finding it difficult. She's not the first, nor won't be the last.

It is that plainly her gender played a significant part in getting her to second place in the FIFA Goal of the Year Award. That is not being begrudging or denying it was a spectacular goal, and I don't mean a button of harm to the girl, but come on,if the goal had been scored in the Phoenix Park during a Leinster League game, by a male, or even by a Shamock Rovers player in the Airtricity League in Tallaght, neither the goal nor the goalscorer would ever been heard of.

Exactly - the guy from Glentoran went to play in Spain after it didn't he? I think the same happened too where he didn't make it but who could blame him for trying.

How has the conclusion been drawn that her gender played a significant part?? Where has anyone given any facts to indicate this was the case?? Plainly you're talking nonsense as usual!!
