Title: Memroable sitcom sketches
Post by: brokencrossbar1 on October 20, 2009, 01:15:17 PM
Watching Fork Handles on the youtube thread brought back great memories of different sketches that I love to watch.  What would othe rpeople's favourites be?  I am not talking about shows, simply sketches as a part of a show.

I love the Fork handles obviously and Del Boy falling through the bar in Only Fools.

The recent one for me was in Two and a half men, when Charlie and Alan have to pretend to be gay lovers.  Fcukin class.  Love that show.

And when Charlie went to meet an ex who turned out to have had a sex change afterwards.  Then the mother shags him/her/it.  Brilliant

OFAH: Del and Rodney chatting up two girls in a nightclub with Rodney going under the guise of a pro tennis player.  Girl asks Rodney: "do you prefer grass or astroturf?".  To which Rodney replies "I don't know, I've never smoked astroturf!!"

Does sitcom sketches make sense?  Surely you have sketches like the two Ronnies or trigger happy and then you've sitcom moments like Father Ted ,Faulty Towers etc.

Really looking forward to the new series of The Thick of It which starts this weekend. Malcolm Tucker could give swearing lessons to Gordon Ramsey.
Tucker's Law: "If some **** can f**k something up, that **** will pick the worst possible time to f**king f**k it up cause that ****'s a ****."
I believe The Thick of It employs a special swearing consultant to add additional profanity! Now there's a great job!

Fawlty Towers in a league of its own. Favourite sketch in a long list of greats was where the Major[who got a lot of the best lines] tells Basil how he once took a girl to see India - at the Oval. Wish I could get a link for it.

Here s the dialogue of that Fawlty bit I mentioned earlier.

The Major: Strange creatures, women. I knew one once... striking-looking girl... tall, you know... father was a banker.

Basil: Really?

The Major: Don't remember the name of the bank.

Basil: Nevermind.

The Major: I must have been rather keen on her because I took her to see... India!

Basil: India?

The Major: At the Oval... fine match, marvellous finish... now, Surrey had to get thirty-three in about half an hour... she went off to powder her... powder her hands or something... women... er... never came back.

Basil: What a shame.

The Major: And the strange thing was... throughout the morning she kept referring to the Indians as niggers. "No no no," I said, "the niggers are the West Indians. These people are wogs." "No, no," she said. "All cricketers are niggers."

Basil: They do get awfully confused, don't they? They're not thinkers. I see it with Sybil everyday.

The Major: I do wish I could remember her name. She's still got my wallet.

Basil: As I was saying, no capacity for logical thought.

The Major: Who?

Basil: Women.

The Major: Oh yes, yes... I thought you meant Indians.

Moysider, Thanks for the Fawlty Towers transcript....... cheered me up no end.

A personal fave of mine is from Trailer Park Boys when in a "hostage situation" the SWAT team shoot the hostage (one of the main characters Julian) wounding him.

Agree with previous poster that 2 and a Half Men is a class show. Losing it a bit though as the  Jake character gets older.

Classic Father Ted....

Mrs Doyle: There's always time for a nice cup of tea. Sure, didn't the Lord himself pause for a nice cup of tea before giving himself up for the world.

Father Ted: No, he didn't, Mrs Doyle!

Mrs Doyle: Well, whatever the equivalent they had for tea in those days, cake or something. And speaking of cake, I have cake!

[Holds up a cupcake]

Father Ted: No thanks, Mrs Doyle.

Mrs Doyle: Are you sure, Father? There's cocaine in it!

Father Ted: WHAT?

Mrs Doyle: Oh, no, not cocaine. God, what am I on about. No, what d'you call them. Raisins.

Not exactly a scene but I was in the Millennium Forum recently for the Fawlty Towers dinning experience.  In it three professional actors play the parts of Basil, Manual and Cybill.  They recreate scenes from the show and do a lot of impromptu stuff for about three hours whilst serving you a lovely 4 course meal.  One of the best nights craics I've ever had, even if Basil did throw my girlfriend out of the building for being riff raff after she complained about the air conditioning.

I noticed at the time it was on all over the country and I would highly recommend it if you get a chance even if your not a fan of the show
