He'd arguably be working in a worse environment than Bolton if he went back

With a less talented squad and an inferior league.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

Well yes. The championship is still one of the best leagues in Europe

Lennon earned his stripes in the Scottish League. That counts for nothing in the top 2 divisions in England. Hard to argue against that.

Bolton knew the position with Bolton when he took the job. There were no offers from other teams.

Getting results from players who are not being paid could not have been easy but its also true to say that the new owners didn't see him as the man to take them forward and they think they are better off paying him (in their state of penury) compensation to not come to work than paying him a wage to aid them in their fight for football survival.

Are you being serious? Have you watched the channel 5 championship highlights program. The standard is abysmal. It's completely over hyped just like the epl. Best league in europe we keep hearing but none of their teams can get into the latter stages of the champions league or the europa.

The English leagues are overrated and overhyped ( by its sellers) but to state that when it is the scottish leagues being discussed is laughable.

The Spl is not much better than the League of Ireland .  Spl results in Europe over the last 5 years have in the main been awful, a few decent results from celtic notwithstanding .

Money wise yes. Of course it is overhyped but so are the leagues in Germany, Spain, Italy, France etc outside their top clubs. The fact that the top clubs in those countries are better than the top English clubs is neither here nor there. You see PSG and Bayern hump teams all the time, likewise Barca and Madrid.

There are more above average teams in the Premier League. Thing is the (so called) top teams are only above average as well!
