The first match was as good a game of hurling as you'll see all year. NUIG stuck John Lee on Joe Canning and Lee was outstanding. Probably helped that he knows Canning so well from Galway training. Probably marks him fairly regularly. Joe had a real off-day. He even missed a few frees he would normally put over blindfolded.

yeah canning was poor enough, he could have stolen it for them right at the end but he blazed over a 21yard free when LIT were 2 down. barry daly (nuig 12) hurled a storm at midfield

Serious character in this NUIG team. Could, and probably should, have been beaten in all 3 group matches. Came thru extra time yesterday and looked beaten today.  Have the momentum now.........

What a steal.

They have done that all through the competition. Just ask CIT. Serious balls

i know im biased towards nuig but the character our lads showed today to come back from 8 points down (i think) at a stage to force extra time, then to have the legs after the game yesterday to keep motorin for the whole of extra time was amazing. you'll be hard pushed to find a better 2 games of hurling played for the ret of the season

They've done that all season as well. They could easily have lost a few games that they ended up winning. They've finished most of their matches strongly though.

Out of the 6 games they played, they could have lost 5 of them.  DIT hit so many wides and lost by a point. UCD were well ahead and NUIG equilised with the last puck of the game. CIT were 7 points up having missed 3 guilt edged goal chances. And that was only the group stages.
Sign of a good team tho, with character in abundance.

i take your point about the CIT game, we got outta jail there but as for the rest of the games thats college hurling. among the top colleges theres rarely a puck of the ball between them. In the last few years at the nuig hurling matches iv been at the vast majority have swung on tiny margins. if you look at the LIT game on friday, if canning had been on top form from frees etc i dont think NUIG would have won that game, even though john lee did an exceptional job on him

Oh and I agree with you.  I meant it as a positive thing.  It is a skill in a team to be able to win tight games.  Look at the NUIG footballers, lost to UCC by 1 point after losing 3 FBD league games by a point each.  They clearly didn't have that little something that the hurlers had.

Where are Finian Coone and Kerrill Wade in terms of the Galway senior team ?

Well Coone isn't on thier panel, but I would imagine they must be looking hard at him. Has been very impressive for the college

mouview

Coone, Wade, Keith Kilkenny and a number of others I think are all part of a development panel currently; training together with a view of maybe supplementing the main panel later in the year or next year. Think Frannie Forde has some input into it.
