Mourinho built a great team at Porto on relatively limited resources. In all his subsequent appointments, he has demanded and been given the opportunity to bring in highly paid players for huge fees rather than develop home grown talent. His approach is no longer working and the groans in the background at  Old Trafford are likely to steadily increase.

McTominay would disagree, got no complaints about his use of the younger players. He's been good with Gomes and some of the other really promising youngsters like Chong. There isn't a top manager about who would turn down the opportunity to spend big money, their all the same.

The groans will soon disappear should United have a successful end to the season

What qualifies as a successful season now for United?

Win the FA Cup and performances in league and europe improve, United have to start showing signs their capable of going close on winning the league next season.

I find it incredible that Jose is singled out for spending big when Pep has assembled the worth of two or three extremely expensive world class forward lines across town. Football at the top level is about spending big, that is the cost of admission to the big boy club.

I have no issue with the manager of Manchester United spending big. It has always been the way as it is one of the richest clubs in the world with possibly the highest income (definitely top 3 anyway).

There's plenty else to criticise Mr Mourinho about. I see he was letting the United medical staff have it there yesterday. I seem to remember him criticising medical professionals for doing their job before.....cost him a fair few quid that.

Yeah strange that the media are picking on the manager who is the guts of 20 points off the pace and not the manager that is playing
exciting football and running away with the league.  ::)

One inherited a team that had already won two titles recently with many key members still at or near their playing peaks. What Jose found, when he arrived at United, was a mess due to late era Fergie batshit planning and two poor managers. Not even close to like-for-like.

And City have still spent €150m more than Utd over the past 5 seasons.

And how a manager of spurs and Liverpool who are further behind, plus worse off goal difference are loved! Though I do like those managers

How many members of the City 13-14 squad are still involved - Silva and Fernandino?? Kompany has been a bit part player this season.
Pep has rebuilt the squad. Yes he's spent a lot but unlike Mourinho's scatter gun approach to transfers he's identified what he needed
and bought accordingly. Think most United fans realise at this stage that Jose is a self serving chancer. If he's still there past this summer I'd be amazed.

LVG's approach could be described as scattergun, but not Jose's. Pogba hasn't hit the heights but he has been a key element to Utd as the W/L record with and without him in the team shows, Lindelof is as of yet unproven and will be a different player next season, and the only real flop has been Mkhitaryan. He has bought 3/4 players each window that strengthened the team, preferring to spend on quality rather than quantity.

It's all a big commie media conspiracy
"When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us"

GJL

"He can't score in big games". 💪🏻💪🏻
