Quote from: tbrick18 on Today at 02:10:26 PMI've had a real run in with insurance companies over the last week or so.
My wee runabout, with our 18yo on it, packed in. Bought a new runabout (3Kish car) and phoned up to change the insurance. They went through the details and it seemed they had our daughter down as only having provisional licence and not full licence, so I informed them that was wrong. They said then she had to come off the policy as they wouldn't insure a young driver and that she wouldn't have been covered all this time (9 months into policy).

They only option they gave us was to take her off the policy or cancel the entire policy.
So I cancelled and set about looking for a new policy. Got some ridiculous quotes (1.5 diesel clio) between 5K and 8K. Not happy with previous insurer, Lloyds, at all - as I feel they have just done this as they know they can get a higher premium now.

Axa quoted £1600 with a telemtry device, next cheapest was about 2.5K.
So I went with Axa, until it came to the point of paying and it said I had to phone them.
I call them, and some cheeky wee f....person on the phone just said that I was just insuring this so my daughter can drive and they'd only quote on her name 4.5K. I explained the car was mine, I was the driver and I've 10+ years NCB, but he just said it didn't matter that basically I was only saying that so she could get cheaper insurance. I'd love to know the legality of that.
Yes my daughter will be driving, but it's not her car nor will she be the main driver.

I tried Abbey, who were more sympathetic, but said they couldn't add her onto a new policy on a new car until I had been driving it myself for 2 years - even though I have 10+ years NCB.
The whole thing is a racket and they seem to be making up rules and inflating the prices.

I had to go with a 2.5K policy with a telemetry device.
I am not surprised there are so many un-insured drivers out there with this approach.
I'd imagine there are not many people who can afford to pay insurance like that every year on top of a car payment.
What makes it worse - my next lad turns 17 in July. No idea what I'm going to do to get him covered.

What have others found?
Anyone any idea if it's worth my time complaining to Lloyds, Axa, Abbey?

Scandalous, what a bunch of cnuts

Recent autorenewal was up 18% from previous years policy and considerably cheaper than all other enquiries shopping around

Complete racket and jacked to the tits with corruption

Found it notable the turnover in players between minor and U20 in recent years

Very few of the minor team who lost to Meath were playing in the recent U20 win, with a number of starters not even on the panel, in effect a very young U20 team with some only finished up at MacRory

Similar a few years ago when McHugh was MF on the winning U20 team 3 years before his final year

How is it that 17-18-19yos are significantly outnumbering 20yos on the 20s team?

Fall off between 20s and Senior is to be expected, but seems a gap between minor and 20s

There is some serious talent coming through at the moment but Senior mgmt is the big ticket item on the horizon, the right appointment is critical, no idea who would be best

Is Usyk Fury 2 for the undisputed again? Heard something about one of the belts being dropped shortly after the recent fight?

Quote from: tiempo on May 28, 2024, 01:18:59 PMYes I'm involved at local level. And the GAA is an overwhelming force for good across Ireland, but Joe is disparaging of other sports as if they are less worthy or less valid in their endeavours and has a holier than ye view on the GAA as if there aren't real issues. Maybe the Prof could do a paper on the incidence of assault across codes or untaxed second incomes (paid managers), I'd suggest GAA doesn't fare favourably to the average golf soccer or rubgy club.

Some deflections there to drag down the contribution of the GAA to Irish society. The GAA at local level has done more to hold communities together than any other organisation, church included.. during good times and challenging times such as huge immigration, the war years and Covid... not sure has Joe ridiculed golf! I enjoy soccer and rugby as much as the next man but isn't comparable what they do on a wider community level and have their own assaults too I'm sure cud be dug out of the archives

Nuance. Joe is a GAA evangelist, and more power to him, buts its OK to point out that its not a bed of roses, and that a GAA up-sell doesn't need to go hand in hand with pulling the efforts of other people in other codes down, their contribution is no less valid or worthy, or are we saying there is a hierarchy of contribution of Irish society/goodness/greatness. The GAA is the new church, a bit of healthy critique never went amiss

Quote from: marty34 on May 23, 2024, 05:01:48 PMI'm surprised Joe has never went into management. I remember he was very critical of the club in Belfast who he was going to take and they went for thr 'paid' option, iirc?

You'd think he get a gig somewhere. Maybe too many plates on the go with his job, podcast and writings etc.
Didn't he offer to do the laundry and drive the bus as well? :) No injustice is as bad or as wrong as when Joe is scorned.

Obviously an understatement but Joe has a complicated personality, he's not just a class a narcissist coupled with being overtly sarcastic bittercnt who tells king sized porkies.
One day he's tearing strips of MH and the next day  with a certainty praising MH's prowess when managing Tyrone. Possibly Joe is bionic because all these raging contradictions have a harmony of sorts inside Joe's head.
I'm concerned though about one creepy aspect of Joe and that is his zealous espousal of the cult of the GAA where Joe is a sort of a Guru  or maybe just an apostle cum preacher, Joe the Baptist.

Yes there is something cult-like about Joe's read, as if the GAA isn't full of charlatans and spivs like any other walk of life, rose tinted glasses, his experience in the GAA is likely similar to that of Tom Cruise within Scientology - he gets a buzz from the profile access and adoration, most people probably would in fairness, he just happens to be a very articulate, well educated and well read individual across a range of topics with a platform, he does make some great points and sometimes a few that are less than great, no-one is forced to listen to him to be honest. Between himself and Jarlath there's bound to be move to become President of Ireland at some point

Quote from: Capt Pat on May 26, 2024, 09:27:40 PMI think Ten Hags main job was to make progress in the premier league and in Europe. He failed abysmally at that task, getting knocked out of Europe completely at the first hurdle and dropping to a poor 8th in the premier league. Does the fa cup win make up for that. I don't think so. He was lucky to face an off form City in the final.

The only question to be answered is who replaces him.

Give it to Giggsy

Arsenal loss to Fulham early in the season, fannying around with Partey at right back and Gabriel dropped has come back to bite, the Villa result latterly obviously cost them but Villa were fantastic in the second half and fully deserved the win, Arsenal gassed that second half in the game between the Bayern tie, very fine margins in PL and CL, staying at that level and finding another 1-2% will be difficult, hinges on recruitment as ever

Come to think of it, did Lorcan Quinn ever get a minute for Tyrone while on the panel, and how long was he on the panel, anyone from Donaghmore able to confirm? Was definitely there in 2021 - did he seriously just train and sit on the bench for every game for 3 and a half years, while also being unable to play for club?

Quote from: square_ball on May 17, 2024, 09:51:31 AMFunny enough I did see Lorcan Quinn was playing a bit of soccer so was wondering whether that was with management blessing. Who is our back up keeper now?

Was extremely harsh this fella didn't even get a runout in the McKenna Cup or that dead rubber NFL game against Dublin at Croke, with that sort of treatment most people would be very reluctant to stay

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on May 15, 2024, 01:02:41 PMffs please not Southgate, he has wasted England best chance to win something over the last few tournaments. The English seem blinded to his incompetence. He speaks well to the media and is a likeable guy but is tactically brain dead

They lost a final on penalties and then lost to a team who missed out on retaining the WC on penalties. I don't think that's down to Southgate "wasting" anything.

Agree

Kane missed a gilt edged chance in WC SF v Croatia, beat on pens in Euro final, Kane missed pen v France in WC

Has to be Southgate now while he's hot surely, how many overlooked Van Dijk before he appeared to surprise many in becoming a stellar player, I see Southgate as the managerial equivalent

Quote from: Goals_Will_Come on May 13, 2024, 11:03:27 AMFancy Tyrone to beat Donegal to top spot. Few weeks training will have them primed to turn over Donegal.

Will Throne give Donegal a guard of honour on to the field, and will Donegal return the faovour on the way off 😉

And would that make Tyrone lineal Ulster Champs?

Disagree tbh, Jarly Og probably hasn't kicked 10 shots with his feet his whole Armagh career, Soupys was the wrong side.

Deserved to lose having refused to win. Jarly get out and practice the shooting add a string to ye bow for next day
