Main Street

I watched Tehran on Newbridge Exile's recommendation, I thought it to be excellent viewing, in the genre of The Bureau (French).

Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

Well worth it, a little slow in the beginning but one of the best I have seen. Smoking hot Keri Russell does not hurt.

Targetman

Don't know of any other way to watch 3rd series, Martin Freeman's character is some change from he was in The Office, its a really good watch

Rudi

Sophie a murder in west Cork on Netflix is worth a watch. Bizarre in many ways, from a key witness retracting an initial statement, Bailey was an eccentric character, Sophie seen a ghostly figure,  which legends believe result in imminent death, the French courts conviction in absentia, the gross incompetence of the Gardai & many other fine details. Baileys partner Jules sticking by him despite his erratic & violent behaviour, she left him in April of this year.
Mad stuff altogether, fact is stranger than fiction.

Surprised this hasn't got a thread of its own. Intriguing story with so many questions and bizarre characters.

It all hinges on that shopkeeper who retracted her statement.

She was the one who came forward in the first place, she stood by her statement for years, complaining, on camera, about him threatening her.

Then she suddenly turns around and retracts it, claiming there was no intimidation whatsoever?

Bailey might not have been convicted, but surely there was enough grounds there to put him on trial in Ireland, at least before she retracted her statement?

Rudi

Huge amount of English people living in the West Cork area taking part in the documentary. Maybe the locals were keen to avoid the limelight or possible intimidation by Bailey. If Bailey is innocent his life has been ruined.

The Netflix show didn't do him any favours.

Whether its a true representation of the facts, I've no idea.

However, he was convicted in absentia in France (albeit with no defense presented - although you'd have to wonder why not?), while he lost both civil suits he brought before and after Ms. Farrell's retraction.

Main Street

In the Jim Sheridan doc, the main Garda detective in the investigation was interviewed a number of times, the last one was chilling, he exuded a real 'Heavy Gang' vibe. Despite the scant evidence he more or less said he went for Bailey as a main suspect  and was prepared to go to any length to fix the case against him because it was justified,
that real evidence against a killer is almost  impossible to find.
The standard of some of the high profile  Garda investigatins over the decades have been appalling.
The Garda investigation into this murder ranks alongside, both the Sallins train robbery and the Kerry Babies.

Hound

Mick Clifford was interviewed about the Sophie case on Dunphy's podcast last week. He's followed it closely from the start and was in full agreement with the DPP that there wasn't anywhere near enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

The guards decided it was Bailey from very early on, despite zero physical evidence. They ignored anything that may have pointed in a different direction. They offered drugs and money to one English dude to testify against him!

Clifford was over there for the French trial and said it was a complete farce.
