Quote from: Onthe40 on May 31, 2024, 11:03:34 AMThis tier 2 & 3 minor championship is some BS....  minors have played what 9-10 games already and now going into a b competition after being comprehensively beaten by Derry in the Ulster championship
Seriously...  club minor season is a shams, away behind, U16s has been delayed by a few months already ...

Do Tyrone need to be in a tier2 competition?

What the GAA have done at national level to the Minor and U20 grades is a joke. The round robins and tiers have completely diluted the significance of the competitions. Added to this is the fact they added this format against the request of counties and the Ulster council. No speeches or interviews further adds to the idea that the GAA are trying to take the competitiveness out of the Minor grade.
Tyrone minors have played I believe 9 games this season and lost 4 of them and deservedly exited the Ulster Championship at the Semi Final stage against Derry. Should be season over and plenty to mull on for the team and players going forward into Under 20 age group. But instead of being finally able to rejoin up with their clubs and play the remaining league games, they are off to play a Tier B competition no one wants to be in that could potentially run for another 3 weeks.
At club level the minor season has been shambolic. CCC telling clubs players are available to clubs and then the county management telling players to not play and then some players playing and others not playing. Ridiculous.
If the GAA are going to insist on continuing down this route of Round Robin and tiers then Club Minor season should not start until late June and conclude prior to the Senior Club Championships starting.
What I would like to see at club level would be -
A modified calendar along the lines of:

U12 - April - June
U14 - July - October (finish before school football begins)
U16 - March - June (starting after the conclusion of school football which is generally St Patrick's Day and the traditional club start anyway - County Minors available to all clubs as was supposed to be the case this year but enforced by CCC - problem would be lessened as less players affected)
U18 - Late June - September (beginning after County Minor season and exams and concluded prior to Senior championships)
Reserve (with anyone Over 16 eligible - giving those lads football through Spring) - April - August
Senior (Over 17 only eligible) - May - October

Why should club fixtures be based around school fixtures?
These players are club players first off.

Are you saying U12's finisb in June?
It is either u12 and u16 finish end of June or u14 and u18 finish end of June as was the plan this year.

Is it not a bit mad U12's stop playing in June, tbe start of the summer and have no action for nearly 4 months of the year?
If U12 finish in June, they join up with U14 panel in July.
Just like when U16 finishes they join up with either U14 or Minor depending on their age.

U17 is Ultra development grade and players and management would want as many games as possible.

Quote from: Rossfan on May 31, 2024, 12:32:33 PMAny idea when the Quarter Finals fixtures will be announced?

On next weekend June 8th/9th now that's poor by HQ to not have venues and throw in times already set.
Tyrone have played 9 games, enough for them to see where they are at and play a number of players in different positions and roles. The next 3 weeks is overkill and not one member of squad or management want to be involved in it.

Not sure whether to put here or in the wtf thread.
Complete joke. Under 17 instead of 18, No speeches, no interviews, no playing before big crowds in provincial and national games and round robin and tiers.
Completely ruined competitions which were once fantastic. Sucked all life out of it. Tyrone Minors this year have played 9 games, lost 4, not one of our better teams and deservedly beaten by Derry in Ulster Semi and that should be the year over. But now have to enter a Tier 2 competition that no one wants to be in for potentially the next 3 weeks. Make it make sense.

Quote from: tiempo on May 30, 2024, 10:13:29 AMFound it notable the turnover in players between minor and U20 in recent years

Very few of the minor team who lost to Meath were playing in the recent U20 win, with a number of starters not even on the panel, in effect a very young U20 team with some only finished up at MacRory

Similar a few years ago when McHugh was MF on the winning U20 team 3 years before his final year

How is it that 17-18-19yos are significantly outnumbering 20yos on the 20s team?

Fall off between 20s and Senior is to be expected, but seems a gap between minor and 20s

There is some serious talent coming through at the moment but Senior mgmt is the big ticket item on the horizon, the right appointment is critical, no idea who would be best
Any notable omissions that come to mind? Guessing Strain would be the main one

From what I can see only 3 of the starting 15 from the u17s in 2021 weren't in the squad for the recent win.

Agree on next senior management it's hard to see any candidates that are banging down the door to be next in line. Even Tally has done his best work as a coach not as manager.
Niall Robinson, Matthew Mallon and Ronan Strain. Conan Devlin was on the panel for opening game but left because he wasn't starting but he is still underage next year. Likes of Callum Daly, Joey Clarke and Ruairi McCullagh would have been year 11 at school and barely 15 years of age and wouldn't of started their development properly, which is the case in the majority of personel changes from Under 17 teams to Under 20 teams. Another drawback of the whole change away from Under 18 and Under 21.

Bound to be close to more losses than wins?

Won 9
Drawn 1
Lost 7

Since All-Ireland win
Won 4
Drawn 1
Lost 7

That's not great reading.

Only wins in ulster are Fermanagh and Cavan

That is actually depressing reading. Not point wasting another year of players talent with dooher and co. Get them out end of this year. Either Peter Canavan, u 20 manager or o'rouke.
Canavan isn't a viable option, hasn't managed in nearly 10 years. Paddy Tally, Ryan McMenamin, Enda McGinley and Ciaran Meenagh would be more likely candidates.
Better keeping Logan and Dooher than going with Paul Devlin. We are concerned at about how pure talent is keeping us competitive but struggling on the sideline against bigger teams. Devlin has won 2 All Irelands on talent alone and arguably lost 2/3 others based on his inability to manage extremely talented players. Tyrone should really have been won their third All Ireland in a row this year but Devlin was in over his head on the sideline against Conor Laverty in 2023. He was also very questionable in their Semi Final losses in 2019 and 2020.

Ccc meeting with clubs in February it was agreed that clubs could request dates for weddings or special circumstances (golf classics etc) and county board would refix the game if the two clubs didn't come to an agreement on a refixture

should have been played before the original fixture not weeks later. Somebody has pulled a fly one.
Or ye know, maybe, both teams and ccc agreed to change the game? Bit of co-operation with all parties. Rather than the nonsense of years gone by where clubs twisted with other clubs and forced players to miss weddings etc

The pace of O'Hare and McElholm could be a big difference late in games. Pace be one thing our senior team has lost since the All-Ireland win, especially in the middle 8.
McAneney, O'Hare, Rafferty, McElholm and Cassidy rumoured to have got the call up during the week.
