Yeah that didn't help us. Monster of a man

Yes this is true. Outstanding he was.  But in reality, one man can be avoided from kickouts.  Armagh had a complete nightmare at attempting any alternative too.

Neither donegal nor armagh managed to do it though.

Tyrone did a much better job of it.

I think management need to have a long hard look at our kickout strategy.  There is no movement in front of Ethan to create space for him to kick it to.  As an example, Ruairi Canavan (hardly a noted fielder) caught a Tyrone kickout in the middle of the field on Friday night due to the Tyrone players moving and creating space for their keeper to kick it to one of their smallest players to catch the ball unopposed.

There doesn't seem to be a strategy in place at all. In the Kerry match our main plan B of kicking the ball on Andy Murnin at the sideline was cruelly exposed.
Keep your pecker hard and your powder dry and the world will turn.

Quote from: statto on January 06, 2026, 09:04:36 PMEthan Rafferty named as an outfield sub for Armagh tomorrow night interesting move given lack of depth at minute in middle and some questionable kickouts the last day.

I thought his efforts for the two goals conceded were fairly weak as well. I know he was left a fair bit exposed but I'd argue as keeper he should have been yelling at his backs miles earlier that Tyrone had a man over and to mark up in both cases. There's no way a decent keeper would be caught twice like this in the same game.

Never checked thon Armagh team before buying a ticket and travelling to the game, TBF once i was there it wasn't too bad. Very inexperienced team and i'm pretty sure Down would have been the same. Armagh's best players were their seasoned players, Joe McIlroy, Cian McConville and T Kelly (O'Neill was decent too and has lost some timber). The younger ones carry the ball into the tackle or bouncing the ball in bad conditions but they'll soon learn. As for ones for the future it's hard to say from my two McKenna cup games and I'm sure KMcG will know better having seen them during training, I know a few that won't make it but ain't gonna mention names as that wouldn't be nice.

Hughes kickouts were good and I would personally be starting him against Monaghan in the first league game.

Thought Joe and TK were our best by some distance, McConville was busy but could maybe do with a little more end product.  Thought Daniel Magee also had a decent outing to back up a decent showing against Tyrone.

Bit soon to say that tbf, look at the likes of McGrane/Conaty/McMullen, never remember them pulling up many trees at underage, but the management team has helped make them very good players and in Conaty's case one of the best forwards in Ireland.

Watched it online, £12 robbery.

Callum O'Neill (belleek) is certainly putting his hand up to be a starting MFer.  The more experienced players were to the fore, TK and McElroy probably best. Of the newer lads O'Keefe put in a good shift with a bit of luck (composure) he could have had a goal and a point or 2.

Blaine Hughes would be my N1, absolutely no debate about it.

Really was Div1 vs Div3. We started v v brightly with Havern pulling the strings. But didn't come out of changing rooms 2nd half.

Good to see, he'd a good enough league and ok Ulster championship, along with McCormack was probably hard done by that he didn't get more playing time in the business end.
