After some criticism of the Derry county board by Minor football manager Naill Conway and hurling manager Brian Mc Gilligan, the county board have decided to charge both men with misconduct considered to have brought the association into disrepute.

Are the county board so blinkered that they can't see that all is not well in Derry football and hurling ?

Charging two great managers surely is digging an even bigger hole for themselves ?

Do you ever get the impression Paddy Heaney is taking great delight in undermining Derry and their county board? Yesterday in the letters page, he allowed 3 contributions to pass without comment, all of which were crticising the County Board, and Crozier to an extent. I think Paddy has a hidden agenda.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

disgrace. it seems to me that the derry county board see themselves as immune to criticism, what they say seemingly has to go. mc gilligan and conway achieved relative success, mc gilligan especially and all without any help it seems from the county board. yet when this has been mentioned they get charged with misconduct. paddy crozier will be derry manager next year because who the hell would want to come and manage a team with that going on

Madness, if this does anything then it should serve to be the straw that breaks the camels back and if the Derry clubs had any collective balls they'd get organised and vote the County Committee out en-mass.

I think the Derry County Board are inviting trouble by embarking on this foolish adventure.

If there is any middle in the derry clubs at all then there should be a motion of no confidence in the derry county board proposed immediately.

this is ridiculous stuff altogether

lynchbhoy

its no wonder the clubs retreat into themselves and concentrate on club championshipwith this batch of morons at the helm of the county board.

Why would any man volunteer outwith his club for the lesser profile stuff for the county - eg hurling and football u21,minor,u16, u14 etc manager/coach/selector etc etc
with that kind of carry on :(

Mc Gilligan in his article ( and I'm sure Conway is the same ) emphasised that he was doing the job as a volunteer, was therefore not being paid NOR was he claiming expenses. This is some reward for his efforts in trying to improve gaelic games in Derry.

As Uladh says - is there no middle in Derry clubs at all ??

They should all land at the next meeting and propose a vote of no confidence in the top table.

Knowing the proud club that Ballinderry are, I can't see them standing idly by and taking this on the chin.

This is an absolute f***ing disgrace. Who do the clowns on the county board think they are? Brian McGilligan and Nial Conway have done great work with their respective teams with an absolute farce of a county board trying to F*** everything up behind the scenes.

It is high time the clubs in Derry got together

Don't get me wrong I'm no lover of the Mid Ulster Observer but this is a bit strong... I think you've got the wrong man there!

I've been speaking to some a lot of people today from other counties and they just can't believe the embarassment this is going to cause in Derry and for the association. Perhaps the County Board itself should be charged with conduct that discredits the association !

Suspend Mc Gilligan and have no manager ? What for ? Just to make Mc Gilligan tow the line ???

Talk about digging a hole for yourself !!

lynchbhoy

its kind of funny that McGilligan be hit with a misconduct charge at least ten years too late !
:D

Derry cb are an embarrassment already so its not as if we are not going to be even more so by their recent actions.

their ineptness is whats keeping the county team from reaching its potential!
based on prev form, expect paddy crozier to be re-instated for another season, or if not, his replacement to be donal keoghan. :o

Thought the same myself. The Derry job was hardly top of the agenda with fans this week.  Funny how there was not as much as one message from Fermanagh, Down, or Monaghan supporters with their teams playing last weekend. The Down ones are usually on in their droves calling for Ross Carr's head after a defeat - what happened them this week?
That's just, like your opinion man.

The Derry board should be sitting down listening to the concerns of these men and trying to quietly address them, rather than taking a sledgehammer to the problem. No one wins in this situation - certainly not the county board who have brought a lot of attention to their mismanagement.  If one manager speaks out, then so be it but when 2 men in the space of a few days go the papers then there's obviously major problems there. You can only presume that things are really bad for these men to go to the papers.  Think back to Crozier 2 years back as well.
