The Blegard

get put on the lipotor and lipidil. Im on them for life as mine was double that. Tried everything and was told by a liver specialist that I have a "celtic" problem" and that I could be an 8 stone vegetarian and it would still be the same. Make sure you do something or in the true irish readition you will have a massive heart attack by the time you are 40 like I was going to have with no warning. How many people has this happened to before??

jeez Drum, the first bit of advice I'd give you is , in the famous words of Blur
'cut dahn on yer pork pies mate'

Dont know the answer old bellaghy buddy
but watch that 'how long will you live' TV programme on RTE each week, the guy is all the time trying to lower cholesterol of the fatties on the show. (he's a hateful hoor to have to listen to though).
A good doc or physio should be able to tell you....

Depending on muscle density and bone density ,body fat percentage with numbers like that a doc could tell you too lose up 3 stone to 3.5 stone.
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

don't worry too much yet Drumanee, have a good chat with the doctor next week and he will give you good advice about your diet and excercise.

Porridge and loads of it if its dietary will help.
5 a day. no processed meats.
its a very serious and common problem,  Consider yourself lucky that you got told this news when you are 40.  I know many 30 year olds who are having severe warnings from doctors on the cholesterol/ bp / fitness and weight issues.  once you quit being a student ye need to change your ways quick, a lot of people are going to die younger.  I blame the oversuppply of hot food counters and easy accessible processed tasty/smelly foods in ordinary shops.  Do you struggle to walk past the sausages  in the morning when you are only in for a paper?  Mc Donalds didnt do it for me,,, it was the sausage soda!

Where did you get it checked? Did you fast for 12 hours beforehand. I had mine tested after 2 weeks on holidays it was 6.2, had it tested one month later down to 5.2. Fruit & veg key. Exercise and weight loss important. stay away from the drugs if you can at all. it can be heriditary also. Half my family follow my mam who realy struggles with it,  the other half after my dad who holds it steady at about 3.

Im a fair bit younger than you and got the doctors orders several months ago.  I wouldnt say i stick regimentally to the "mediterranean diet" but things have improved a lot and less carry outs and hopefully in time none.  Its conforting to know that your doctor will now monitor the situation but ye need to do it for yourself and you will be fine and it dosent mean the funs out of life.  For me it meant my obsession with rich savoury food had to change, and i wasnt overweight either, and lose any love for cheese that you may have had.  My doc said try to picture the lump of cheese in your artery.... yuerghh!
