He doesn't remember all the facts, they're on his computer. When something happens, at a match, goal, sending off or whatever, his screen flicks up with the info and he reads it.

I read an interview where he claimed to ad lib most of his quips, although he stored a few away just in case, e.g. when Gareth Jellyman got sent off he had "Jellyman has thrown a wobbler!" stored in his mental Rolodex.
