What a good day to bury a story that those utter cretins in Stormont are each getting a £14,000 salary increase.

I cant believe I'm typing this, but 53k is pretty poor for an elected official surely?  That said, our 90 are mostly useless bastids, who are more out than in, and picked up a salary for doing nothing.  They regularly display incompetence... so i'm arguing against myself here  ;D

I was thinking the same.
I wonder if the salary was 100K+, would some more qualified people consider politics as an option?
But I agree - some of them are stealing a living. some are doing their bit though to be fair.

The majority are councillors masquerading as politicians. Is disgusting considering health care workers, teachers and other more worthy occupations have to threaten strike action to get a 3% to 4% pay rise.

Just over a year later......Naomi Long's crystal ball doesn't seem to have been working very well that day. Do these people take all of us for complete f**king idiots?

Expenses and pension though.

I think if you're ever and MLA at all then you're sorted pension wise.

Surely the pension is only over the period of being a MLA?

Anyways there is some crap spoke up there so most of us would fit right in ;D

I'm sure a lot of them are hard working for their constituents but in many of the strongly green or orange areas it wouldn't matter if your MLA was blew up or stuffed.

Might have worked hard as councillors but when they head down the motorway are of absolutely no benefit to local constituencies (west of the Bann anyway). What is Stormont delivering?

Hard working is all relative. Some of them would think pointing at a pothole in a photo in your local paper is their work done for the week.

Milltown Row2

They work harder on social media than they do at real life politics, f**king charlatans, fix the place ffs, instead of having a go at each other

There's a few ya wouldn't mind having a good go at them if they called to your house looking votes!

53k is ludicrously low, given the levels of shite and scrutiny

I still wouldn't do it for the 67

The increase puts them in the range of a senior manager in Civil Service or Local Government. And well into the higher income tax bracket so they lose 40% of it. e.g Currently advertised Planning Officer in DfI - Salary will be within the range £61,673 - £64,469 within which pay progression will be performance related.
For some it wont be the most secure job in the world as they might get turfed out at the next election so needs to be reasonably well paid.
And if they are useless only the voters can be blamed as some people will vote for anything with a U in the party name and the others anything without.
