This stuff is crazy. Violence at a couple of grounds in Italy today. That coupled with the treatment of United fans in Rome means surely FIFA will now have to take action against the Italians.

That will depend if Milan and the rest let them or not, they seem to have too much influence in the game altogether.

By the way, the cop seems to have been ex ruc, he meant to fire a shot in the air andinstead he shot and killed a civilian. :(

Those police are just itching for trouble. Was in rome a few years back, not at a game but roma were playing and the cops were just dying for a fight.Same in France, dying for trouble but unfortunately they were not so brave when the germans walked into france 60 years ago.

Can the Italian authorities guarantee the safety of away supporters in the Champions League now. There will be a massive backlash from the Ultras in Italy, who don't need much reason to organise violence. Banning the International team from the Euros (if they qualify) may be drastic action but may be needed.

Think Milan Atlanta had to be abandoned because of crowd trouble

QuoteThis match was halted after just eight minutes when Atalanta fans threatened to riot if play continued despite the death earlier today of a Lazio supporter.

There were brawls outside the stadium before kick-off after news came through that a Lazio fan had been accidentally killed by a police officer's bullet. The tension inside the arena was sky-high, as both sets of supporters repeatedly urged the players to leave the pitch and call off the game, going so far as to throw objects on to the field and try to smash down the plexiglass dividers. Atalanta players appealed to their fans to stop, but they were determined to stop play at all costs.

Inevitably play was halted after eight minutes and when negotiations between Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni and the chief Ultras failed to find a solution, the referee led the two teams off the pitch.

I heard that it wasn't crowd trouble at Milan but collusion between both sets of Ultras to get the game abandoned as protest against the police shooting earlier.
I think the fans are reminding the authorities of how the Italian league closed down last year after a cop was killed, but sure today it twas just a fan.

Riots at grounds up and down Italy...from Bergamo in the north to Taranto in the south. Several games abandoned. Very angry crowds in Milan and Rome. The guy who was killed was sitting in his car in the service station waiting for his 4 mates to rejoin him (on their way to Milan). Seems to have been shot twice - which rather argues against the "tragic accident" theory, especially as the car was parked in a bay right next to the northbound carriageway.

Rioting still going on, apparently a croiwd of 200 have attacked Police station. Looks pretty serious on Sky News there

What a nightmare.
Will FIFA act they bottled it last time ?
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Clubs will be fined, and the Italian football authorities will be warned, but Italy has to much power and FIFA won't take the appropriate action, but time will tell. Things are only getting worse with the hooligans, the Atalanta captain even tried to talk to the chief Ultra to try and calm things down. The fact that this happens in 2007 says it all really, can you imagine John Terry 'negioating' with the head of Chelsea's firm?? If this happened England, the book would be thrown at the FA.

I don't suppose it will take a Heysel-style disaster for the appropriate punishment to be meted out? Certainly seems to be as bad, if not worse, than anything England produced in its day.
