It is a concussion cover to help limit/prevent a concussion especially for players who just came off of a head injury.

I believe all of them should wear them as CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) is no joke.

It's called a Guardian Cap. They've been mandatory in practice for a number of position groups for a few years. Last year was the first season where they were allowed wear them in games.

Seems like a no-brainer (geddit?!) but some players don't like the additional weight.

I forget the player who said he knows it's safer to wear them but it didnt look cool basically, so he wouldn't

Not doubting Belichek's credentials btw. But maybe there was a next in line in place already for many of the voters. Seems like the only plausible out.

Seems there has been a movement to punish him for the Deflategate and Spygate scandals.

I'm sure they'll be just as punitive with Brady, Payton etc. for their roles in various scandals   

They'll be of course looking into removing Peyton Mann ing because of the stench of "his wife's" HGH shipment. Allegedly.
