Come on hill is blue there's no need to be mentioning Ciaran Whelan for the best team in the country. Maybe a few years a ago he had a chance but not now. If games lasted 15 minutes then he'd have a chance. I see to back up your arguements your still going back to 1 game in 2005. Whlean out caught Cavanagh that day in the 1st half fair enough. But Cavanagh scored 3 from play and when it mattered helped drive Tyrone back into the game whereas Whelan went quiet. It must also be remembered that Cavanagh was only 21/22 then and still very much developing that area of his game. He seems to have improved considerably in this region over the last few years. Whelan was at the peak of his career. As I said he did well at catching kick outs in the 1st half but where was he in the 2nd half when it mattered most?

How about Cavanagh v Whelan now?  ;)

How about it now the hill is blue? Whelan simply doesnt do enough.

new devil

You got him in the long grass tyrone dreamer  :D :D ;)

Id been waiting to get a sly dig in. It was typical of the Dub to put in the dirty dig after Tyrone were out.

Cluxton is the best keeper in the country by a mile

Some Keeper all right . What a mistake . Quirke and Murphy would not make that mistake

Rav67

Come on JP one mistake he's still the best about, although that alone will probably cost him an All-Star this year

Very poor call by Cluxton. They may well have got a draw only for that. I didnt think that the ball should have been played back to him in the first place.

Maybe I am been a bit harsh . It was such a tight game that I thought it did impact the result ,Still the all stars are a bit of a lottery a lot of Kerry and Cork people reckon the Meath keeper is the best around

magpie seanie

Its not just one mistake. He makes several mistakes and kicks at least one ball per game out over the sideline. He is a good 'keeper but if he wasn't the Dubs keeper he wouldn't have the profile or number of Allstars he has. Quirke and Murphy of Kerry and Murphy of Meath are far more solid.

Still think Ross Donovan deserves an Allstar at corner back though knowing the ridiculous way these things are done O'Hara probably has a better chance (and it was one of his worst years in a Sligo shirt in terms of personal performance).

As a quick stab as of now I'd go for:

Quirke

Conor Gormley
Darren Fay
Ross Donovan

Tomas O'Sé
Anthony Moyles
Anthony Lynch

Nicholas Murphy
Dara Ó'Sé

Alan Brogan
Declan O'Sullivan
Graham Geraghty or Stephen Bray

Paddy Bradley
Colm Cooper
Tommy Freeman

Cluxton

Marc O'Se
Kevin McCloy
Canty

Tomas O'Se
Conor Gormley
Anthony Lynch??

Nicholas Murphy
Dara O'Se

Declan O'Sullivan
Alan Brogan
Tommy Freeman

Colm Cooper
Paddy Bradley
Stephen Bray

Kerry - 5
Cork - 3
Dublin - 2
Derry - 2
Meath - 1
Monaghan - 1
Tyrone - 1

That's what I think - and Cavanagh could arguably be in there. However with politics it will never work out like that!!

Like most people Im sure my opinion changes throughout the year. Here's my current pick:
Murphy (Meath)
Marc O'Se (Kerry)
McCloy (Derry)
Canty (Cork)
Freeman (Monaghan)
Gormley (Tyrone)
Lynch (Cork)
Doherty (Derry)
O'Se (Kerry)
O'Sullivan (Kerry)
Cooper (Kerry)
Cavanagh (Tyrone)
Bradley (Derry)
McDonnell (Armagh)
Freeeman (Monaghan)

Declan O'Sullivan picked on current form. Brogan close to chf. Only moved Cooper out cause thought 3 full forwards deserved selection.

Was bored at work today and had a think about this. In this day and age I think I would go with:

                              Cluxton

K.Lacey                  J.Keane             A.Lynch

T. O'Se                  G.Canty             J.Miskella

               D.Earley                S.Cavanagh

P.Galvin                  D.O'Sullivan         B.Brogan

M.Meehan              K.Donaghy          P.Bradley

Good mix there with an attacking HB line, a hard working half forward, A target-man and 2 excellent free takers.

2 Dubs, a retired Westmeath player and an aging Kildareman? Where are you from?

IMHO Alan Brogan is the only current Dub (Shane Ryan also if was still playing) to have performed well enough in the heat of Championship to be even considered. Bernard looks like a good one alright but he will have to deliver outside Leinster. Dermot Earley is a great servant to the game but is not currently in the top 2 midfielders in the country. Paddy Bradley hasn't done anything in a big game in Croker recently either.  I thought McCloy looked a great prospect a few years ago but he hasn't really kicked on so McMahon would probably get my nod at fullback.

Murphy of Donegal would make my 15 after his exploits against Cork last year instead of Bradley. While any of The Gooch, SON, Alan Brogan and even John Doyle would get in ahead Bernard.

Alarming though the lack of Connacht players.
