Feel that its about time we had one dedicated to camogie in Antrim - similar that ladies football should also have its own thread.

Massive win for Antrim in Cork at the weekend.

After watching the Tipp game last week i didnt see anything other than a hiding for the girls but they really proved us all wrong. Cork seemed to rest a few players with only three of the All Ireland final team on the pitch.

At the end up they threw on the Cahalane sister, Avril Cashman etc to try and steady the ship but it didnt work.

Some result and apparently a first senior competitive win v cork since 1956!

It's great to see Dowds back in charge and I think that's a positive step too.

From what I could see I think we were missing the likes of McCormick too.

Na Glinntí Glasa

Roisin has taken a break from the panel after colleges camogie. The girl needs a break as shes never done playing.

She would be a massive asset to the team if she was there.

On another positive it was good to see two Minor winners from last year starting and scoring for the seniors. Eobha McAllister from Dunloy and Aimee Ferris from Sarsfields.

Two very good players and its good to see the progression from the minor county set up to senior.

McCormick/ Dobbin two big misses. Fantastic win hopefully its not a one off

Is Mcallister the same girl who is playing for CPC or someone different?

well done NGG for starting it up

a rare win that should be cherished.   realise it wasnt Cork full out but the strength of the cork panel would have been too much is previous years so credit due to the progress the girls are making.  antrim beating cork in any code will always be of note

was it individual performances or was a there a tactical change from the tipperary match that made the difference?

That's her. Both her and Aimee Ferris came on against Tipp and tbh looked the part. Deserved their starts at the weekend and both got scores so justified their inclusion and both look like they have great careers ahead of them.

It seemed to be hell of a lot of work rate that did the business for the girls. id say there might have been a bit of compliancy from Cork with the 'its only Antrim' for the game but with the depth they have they still should of been winning at home.

Im happy for the girls because Antrim camogie is strong at club level but never seemed to make the step up at county level.

Also pleased for young Ferris from Sarsfields. Belfast camogie has been on a downward spiral since Rossa & St Johns fell away so it needs young girls like her to be at the forefront for the others to realise that they too can play at this level.

We have only recently started with Camogie in the club and plenty working in the background to make it successful, plenty of ex seniors have more girls nowadays lol
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Watched a Sarsfields U16 camogie team yesterday and they'd some tidy enough camogs amongst them.

Albeit they were playing Down U14 development squad but looked to be well coached, good strikers of the ball which isn't a given with girls who are inclined to push the ball rather than strike it and most were good catchers of the ball in the air.

I hadn't Sarsfields down as anything strong in camogie so well done to those involved.

Na Glinntí Glasa

Sarsfields have done a lot of good work and been building themselves.

They won Division 3 and the junior championship in 2025 so will be in Divison 2 & intermediate championship for 2026.

Its a good to see a club that wants to really push it forward.

To be fair Lamh Dhearg, Davitts, St Gall & Ardoyne have been doing good work as well to get things going in the clubs.

St Brigids are fielding their first ever senior camogie team this season so the clubs have def been working hard.

We need to see a stronger senior scene as in truth theres only 3 teams can really win the championship in Loughgiel, Cushendall & Dunloy - Ballycastle have sort of lost their way a bit.

imtommygunn

The big question is will Loughgiel's dominance be broken any time soon.

Cushendall have had some really good juvenile teams, u16's etc and normally the girls make an impact at adult a good bit quicker than lads would.

Would they not be far away?

Na Glinntí Glasa

Its become much tighter than its ever been this past few seasons - which is good for Antrim camogie.

They have rightly been at the top for so long due to the continuous line of players coming into the team but that has sort of dried up. They used to dominate underage camogie but haven't won anything for the last 6 years which is telling.

Cushendall, Dunloy, Portglenone are winning underage titles now so you could see a shift in the next lot of years.

Cushendall def be one of the challengers

imtommygunn

Your own club seemed to be the bigger challenger did they not or are you playing that down  ;D

Yeah nothing against Loughgiel but would be good to see dominance broken. (Though I had hoped they maybe had an AI in that team).
