Was talking to a parent of one young lad on under 20 panel he brought his young lad up to Antrim a few weeks ago to play Antrim were beaten by over 20 points had no recognised goalie and he said it was a complete sh**show

Laois man

Then there wondering why lads won't go in. I heard the same.

on the hop

Quote from: Genocide Organ on February 12, 2026, 08:29:59 AMThey played Kildare in a practice game in CoE the other night. Don't know how it ended, but Laois were six or seven up midway in the second half.

U20s reasonably well beaten by Kilkenny u19s last weekend, also at CoE.

they won well in the end but it was Kildare's subs and a few that didn't get a full run out in their league game against Antrim two days previous.

Laois were also missing 8 to 10 players that played the Derry league game. Laois won well in the end. Good start to the year for them but bigger tests to come.

Quote from: Verbal on February 12, 2026, 10:43:42 PMWho is over the 20s?

Derek Delaney. Portlaoise.

He was over them last year, as well. Some very poor results to begin with then too, but they beat Wexford to get to a semi-final, so he must be aiming to peak later on. Hopefully.

Neither of the goalies on the panel play in goal for their club, but it's not unheard of for intercounty goalies to play outfield for their clubs... Mind you, you would think that there'd be some dedicated 'keeper in the county worth his salt between 17 and 20.

Eh? Have you said too much? Are you just in from the pub?

I wasn't at the game, and yes, a one point win wasn't what you'd be hoping for. However, it was a win on a sodden pitch on a wet day in Feb. Now, bar two or three lads who aren't in there for various reasons, we have virtually everyone available. They're not world beaters, and that's just the way it is. Laois hurling has slipped a lot since the days of Leahy - or rather, the others have kicked on and we've stood still. It's going to be like this for the next few years because it's hard to keep enough young lads interested when they know they'll be bet most of the time.

By the way, what good did Fennelly do for us when he was here - and he a Kilkenny man?

He is not far off about shanahoe though 🥵
Eoghan Murphy , cormac Byrne , Fionán Mahony , Eoin Gaughan Lee cleere would all give us a bit of a push I think .
Tomas Keyes needs to learn how to cope with tight marking .  Needs to learn to protect the ball against lads who can stay with him for speed . Or maybe he is better suited out the field in more space . We will be ok n backs and midfield, forwards struggling

Yes, but not playing much , maybe some injury issues?   Jordan walsh back in action yesterday and Diarmuid Conway still to come back. we have plenty of options and competition 1 to 9.

Not so much for half forward line though and as pointed out earlier a preponderance of small fast  skilful lads in full forward line .

Picky is training hard I believe and will hopefully make it . That would be a huge boost

Eoghan Murphy and Cormac Byrne played for the u20s this morning (they lost to Tipp minors), not sure Gaughan is up to it yet, and Mahony needs more time. Good to hear Picky is training. Could do with something in the forwards, all right.

Laois man

U20s lost to Tipp minors that's fair poor.
