When I grew up, believe it or not, we had 1 black & white TV, with 3 channels on it.

With the proliferation of TV channels, 99% of them are churning out complete & utter shite, simultaneously.

More channels certainly doesn't equate to better quality.

TV, social media.....everything has dumbed down considerably; it's all low cost dross, for the most part.

That probably points to a failing educational system, whereby a lot of people nowadays simply cannot grasp any concept that requires any degree of independent thinking, wit, or intelligence. It's beyond them.

The majority of the human race appears to be regressing, at an alarming rate & it's quite scary.

A sad reflection on parts of the UK today who no doubt are / will grow up thinking the likes of Farage will fix everything for them.  Their world stops and ends in Grimsby so if there are no jobs will then that's it, no point trying at school or no pointing looking for a job.  The idea of moving away to somewhere to get a job is not even on their radar.

But that is down to technology- you can get to Spain for €30.

But the 20 somethings are still likely live at home and have gig economy jobs in a much more volatile world.
if Farage gets in he will fail witjhin 2 years. Over 10 yearsvMat; Truss , Johnson,Truss, Sunak and Starmer all failerd. 50 of the richest families own more than 34 million people.

Organised for what?

Do we just take all their money and do what with it?

Unfortunately, people don't get 'organised' very much, any longer. One of the key things that the neoliberals have sought to achieve was to do away with the notion of 'us' or 'we' & to substitute the 'me' mentality instead. The unions are gone and any meaningful sense of 'community' is rapidly disappearing. People now do exactly what they like, when they like, because it suits them & an awful lot of people just cheerfully ignore any rules they don't like & disregard anyone in authority.

Yes....but 10 years is a long time ago now, so the thicko little Englanders have totally forgotten that Farage promised them the land of milk & honey, if they would only vote for Brexit and they voted for his nonsense again last week, in their droves. Farage makes all the right noises & the braindead go out and vote the way that he & his Thai crypto backer want them to.

You could say  the  same  about  elections nearer to home.

Paisley & McGuinness both realised that, no matter how distasteful it might be initially, getting access to 50% of the trough each was better than nothing at all. The snouts have been well & truly buried in it, ever since. The electorate only need to be worried about [very briefly] every 5 years or so.

Been saying this for years. Every time someone from this island describes another country's voters as thick, it just astonishes me.

playwiththewind1st

I am very sorry; mea maxima culpa.

I will try not to describe the English electorate as "thick", in future.

Shall we go with "unsophisticated" maybe?

Anyone voting for Reform is a simple ****. No other way about it.

Not sure it's that simple. The system has failed. Labour aren't centre left anymore, the Tories aren't doing their thing. The vaccum had to be filled. Why not try something new?

There is nothing new about Reform. Most of their Parlimentary Party is former Tories including Jenrick and Braverman who have held positions which touch on responsibility related to immigration. And they aren't the only ones. Plenty of Councillors, former MPs and Mayors have defected from the Tories to Reform.

Farage was also on the vanguard of the Brexit agenda. Brexit has been a disaster for the UK, and yet people like him will trumpet its "success".

Reform are also heavily led by a number of high net worth individuals.

This isn't change in any material sense. It's a particularly nasty wing of the status quo getting together and packaging the same item the voting public cast aside from time to time.

So, because both Labour & the Conservatives have utterly failed, we then pass the parcel to a bunch of swivel-eyed xenophobic idiots, who manage to make Liz Truss look like a Trotskyist?

The UK is fecked.

Everyone looked at the US and Trump and thought it couldn't happen elsewhere as people in the UK were smarter etc, but here we are.

People voted for Reform candidates that are openly racist, Islamophobic and ironically truly anti-semitic holocaust deniers.

If that trend continues to the next UK general election then seeing Reform in government won't be that big of a surprise.

Labour are worse than useless and Polanski is getting the Corbyn treatment now.

I'm not defending Reform. I'm saying the big two have shat the bed and a Frankesnstein has emerged, left wing economic rhetoric, right wing social noise. Predictable.

But the racist aspect of the Tories was always there. A Conservative won a seat in 1964 with the slogan 'If you want a nigger for a neighbour, vote Labour'. In last week's by election in North Harrow, the Conservative winner  ran despite being suspended for racist Tweets.

Are they all that sophisticated an electorate?
