JOHN FOGARTY
Former Cobh Ramblers manager Shane Keegan has joined the Wexford senior hurling management team for 2026.

The Laois man was in charge of Tipperary club JK Brackens senior football and hurling sides this past season and works as head of coaching and games in his native county.

I find this a poor choice

Jaysus . Imagine the equivalent of his role from Offaly efc pulling the same stroke . Disappointing but not hugely surprising.

Serious questions have to be answered about this. How is this man going to give adequate time to his role with Laois GAA (which is hugely important) and be Wexford coach?

Also, isn't there a conflict of interest here?

That's before even starting a conversation about how he pulled this stroke, and how Wexford entertained it.

The optics of it doesn't look good. However, if he is fulfilling his brief with Laois in this role can the county board stop him from taking the position with Wexford. The Laois GAA Head of Coaching & Games seems to be a 9-5 type gig so his evenings are free to pursue whatever he chooses. I'm sure that he will argue that the experience he gains from being involved with Wexford will only benefit him in his role of with Laois. He is also probably in need for redemption also after Brackens very disappointing exit from the Tipp football championship and premlim quarter final loss in the hurling.

I'd have a lot of time for Shane Keegan but this is not a good look.

Our head of Gaelic Games Development is indeed entitled to spend his free time as he sees fit but I'd question how he can reconcile the demands of his role with Laois with any kind of commitment down in Wexford, certainly a hands-on coaching role.
