Not studying at all for my GCSE's lol.. Not a regret just wasn't mentally focused which is what the problem we have when trying to push kids to college..

Biggest regret? Wow.. I suppose I could have done more with the kids, you never get that period of time back and it goes very very quickly.

BTW thats not saying I didn't do the bed time stories or the weekly swimming sessions for 11 years, cinemas on films we like rather than their mum.. Its just someone had to say no at times and that was my job lol

I suppose on kids its difficult as life is hectic and it can be difficult to be the best as life is work, bills, stress, choices and dealing with the day to day.. I'd the added anxiety having a son from another earlier relationship and trying to straddle the complexities of that, and everything else in life so looking back, advice to young me would have been do more
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Not picking a uni degree with a clear career path.
Not going travelling after uni.
Reduce the level of drinking when younger.
Not doing any proper S&C when playing

+1

At the end of the day we will all be working for 40+ years so taking 6 months  / a year out before you get on the treadmill of a proper job makes no difference in the long term.

I'd agree with a lot of that in fairness.  I can vividly remember our careers advice in school being "Go and get a degree.  It doesnt matter what in, just get a degree and it will stand to you."  A specific career focused degree and direction would have helped me.  But maybe I just hadnt a clue.

I'll agree with those ones. I picked a degree with a job attached but travelling after uni didn't happen because of other things. Too much drink in uni especially after getting an injury at the football that the S&C would have solved at the time.

I'd agree with both quotes lol

Mind the careers teacher asking me about engineering, had never heard tell of it so zero interest. I just wanted to be a businessman so.....did business studies lol

Luckily enough not too many. Mistakes made but you get on with life,  was kinda lucky did the degree I wanted,  got into the world of work I wanted,  pretty decent life altogether even allowing for personal challenges. Turning 50 in December and genuinely very happy with where I am in the world.

Yes, yes you won a few medals, well done. We're all aware. Get over it.

Buying a Renault Espace about 15 years ago. 3 Engines later I scrapped it as I'd had enough.

I think everyone has one relationship they might regret ending......though wouldn't want to admit to it  :o  ;D

Moving to Tyrone voluntarily.

Not going travelling after uni, though to be honest, I didn't have the money to do it. Doesn't seem to stop young ones these days and they're probably right. I never went to the festivals, lads holidays etc as I just couldn't have found the money - but always regret missing out.

Not doing a year in halls at Uni. I think it was the only Uni experience I missed out on.

Didn't even go down that road but at least I know it hurts you still...

Fair enough ....hmmm do regret I didn't travel....when given the choice between winning multiple all Ireland winners medals or travelling I made the Hobsons Choice and stayed at home...

So try to travel now but would have been great craic as a 20 something to have been able to do that

From the Bunker

I don't have many major regrets.

Probably to have played more sport in my 20's - but there would have been other things I'd have missed out on.

I never got caught up in having the all consuming job and money.
I tinkered with it for a while - But that life was never going to be for me.
People and the simple things were more important.
Don't get me wrong I still have to earn money and pay the bills.

I often looked at the guy with the Big Car, Big House and Hob Nob Job and thought do I want to sacrifice my life for that?

I've done ok. I seen my children grow up and been there all week. Got involved in community projects and sports coaching.

I'm not going to work full-time up to the age of 67 - there will be a wind-down coming into my 60's. Where I hope to work less hours and with less stress/strain.
