Some quick replies to this discussion to date:

- Claregalway GAA won D1 of the competition in 2022.
- in terms of future county stars emerging from successful winning Féile teams, Galway's Niall Finnegan captained Salthill to victory in Cork in 1985 and later won an all-Ireland senior football medal with the Tribesmen in 1998. He was also on the Galway team beaten by Kerry in 2000 after a replay.

Interestingly, Salthill beat Nemo Rangers in the 1985 final and future Cork star Colin Corkery also featured. As we approach the 40th anniversary of that final, a piece of useless trivia - Féile weekend in 1985 coincided with the Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia 😉

Think hosting counties get extra places cause was loads of Derry reps throughout the Divisions

Last year at group stages in Derry I don't think teams knew qualification for a Derry semi final would get them into the All Ireland. My belief is 2025 was first time the host got multiple teams in Division 1. And therefore as only second year with more than the host champions involved this is first time two teams from same county in the final.

Very good. I suppose host county needs an incentive to give up their pitches etc. Only fair.

Must be hard for the HQ organisers to work out which level teams are at. As they are all from different counties.

Are all counties represented at say, Div. 1 Grade?  Is there like Div. 1 Group 1-6 etc.?

The 4 divisions are listed on the Derry website Tables 12 in Division 1 with 4 Derry 8 Others.

A lot of GAA people I've talked to about Feile don't really like how seriously some other GAA folk take it, especially compared to the olden days when it was pretty much a case of kids would do zero in the way of extra preparation and would basically just show up on the day and play.

Lots of tales around about managers going overboard with excessive training and lads on sidelines acting the maggot as if it were life-or-death stuff.

I'd say that a lot of clubs just couldn't be bothered with the hoopla and hype around it.

It's massive in dublin, squads fund raise for months for new kits etc and in fairness it's well run, which is an achievement for 12/13 divisions, male and female and each team and division gets a finals day.
I haven't really come across that sort of excessive training and tactics in underage club football here in Dublin, although it undoubtedly exists. One thing I've noticed is that there does seem to be a drop-off in interest afterwards though and numbers playing never seem to recover, it's as though they've hung on for this big event and as soon as it's over, that's it, the boots are hung up for good!!

Did a Dublin Feile club team not go on a training camp to Spain or somewhere last year?
