Could we do something in the 4 x 100 relay.
The 4 x 400 is a big unknown. Adeleke has a chance of a medal as have the 2 golfers. Jack Woolley goes in the Taekwondo - i've no idea what his chances are.

I get the impression that Wiffen is only swimming in the open water for the craic. Having typed that he'll probably win it now.

Quote from: weareros on August 06, 2024, 11:19:51 PMWiffen is an unknown in the 10k in the Seine (if he can manage without falling ill). But a medal is certainly possible.

I don't think he's an open water swimmer?  Could be wrong but pool swimming and open water (lake, river, sea) are so different

His debut apparently. He must believe he can do it.

I'd imagine the rhythm, water temperature, pacing, endurance and general psychology would be different. In indoor you have a breather to gather your thoughts every time at 50m when you power-off the wall. The race can be easier broken off into sections. The Air is even different.

That said - He has noting to lose. It won't interfere with anything else - unless he get terribly sick from the Seine.

It's different in that it's slower, requires sighting and the water is murky. So debuting is going to be some effort to get in the mix.

He doesn't lack confidence so I wouldn't be surprised
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Paltrineri is a double world champion and Tokyo bronze medallist in it. More crossover than you'd think.

Wiffen surly took an auld spin up to Lough Neagh and had a swim in it, right?

From the Bunker

Daniel Wiffen to Win Men's 10km Open Water Gold Medal 15/2 with Paddy Power.

1.3mn watched it.  A nation came together.  Blah blah blah.  Pisses me to high heaven that I can't watch it on RTE. Made do with the iPlayer but it's not the same.

iPlayer would have been a better experience than listening to Hugh Cahill.

BBC were fine, but there was no pre:post fight analysis.

Surely by now people will have realised that RTÉ, ahem forget, to block restricted shows on the their HD channels..
The Olympics, Champions League, Home & away etc are all unblocked in the North on the HD channels. Its currently channel 31 on my TV but I think it originally tuned in at 800+

Different story if you're on Sky, but if you have a TV aerial you should be able to get it same as me
