Quote from: weareros on July 27, 2024, 08:58:15 PMGood first set for Nhat Nguyen in Badminton against the Israeli challenger. Should Nhat not have been listed as Cavan in the RTE athletes by county since that is where the family originally settled from Vietnam.

Cavan for Sam. 2 olympians this time round for the Breffni county.

Eh? Of course it's mocking the last supper. That much is undeniable.

The last supper itself is deniable though.

Stupid question maybe... I assume that's Irish time? ... is an hour difference us and París.

Good question. Yes Irish Time as from RTE.ie. But I checked the Ireland/GB rugby sevens on Olympic site Paris Time and it is listed as 15:30 but 14:30 on RTE.

I'd take that over the debauchery witnessed last night.

Debauchery? Yes, couldn't agree more. Decades worth the length and breadth of the island

Duine Inteacht Eile

I suppose you could compare a lot of things to institutional child abuse and they would be "better".

Fwiw, I didn't watch the opening ceremony, nor do I particularly care much about it.

But, ffs....

I'm sure there is a schedule of acts available for such a huge event which should clear it up.

If it was a last supper thing, you'd have to wonder wtf they were thinking. Not the time or place.

If it was the Dionysus thing, then the offended christians should move the f**k on to their next perceived insult.
The olympics account  have took the video off their own YouTube now...

Ok, but that doesn't prove anything either way.

I'm sure tonnes of planning, involving a lot of people, went into all of this. Should be easy enough for the truth to come out.

Meanwhile back at the games: that was so frustrating seeing Aidan Walsh losing to the French lad Traore after winning the first round. Am no boxing expert but felt like he was coached by one of those GAA coaches, sit back and be hugely cautious. I suppose both were the same at times and reminded by the ref they were there to fight. Is a pity, he looked so commanding in the first round. Traore deserved it. Boxing: 2 down - eight left...

NB: just seen his post-fight interview. Has obviously had his struggles. Great outlook:

"There's no commiserations at all. I'm winning at life and happy to be here and happy to be competing. It's an absolute privilege.

"Everybody knows my journey over the past two years, to be here is a miracle for me.

"Regardless of [whether I] win, lose or draw, it is what it is. I'm healthy, I'm happy to be here. I'd like to say thank you to the support at home, I probably let people down."

You could argue the opposite that to think a person can "win" or lose at life is quite unhealthy.

Whilst I don't know what this lad has been through the mental health struggles of Irish amateur boxers is very well documented. Sutherland, Evan's alcoholicism, Barnes, you'd wonder is there a common denominator there or is it just coincidental.
