There looked a pretty significant difference in quality / pace / intensity between the two semi finals today. You would expect down to be big favourites now.

Down have lost  the last 13 finals theyve played in all compei
Titions. The pressure is all on Down.

It wasn't pretty but I'm delighted by the result. Thought Down really stood up at the end. Murdock especially, who hadn't had a great game, started dominating in the middle and he took the pen brilliantly.
I think that will stand better to Down than the hammering of Laois last year. Felt they then came into the final a bit undercooked.
I thought both the penalty and the red card were both fairly obvious, surprised by the controversy but I'll admit I'm biased. I hope Oisín Savage is alright, it was a scary looking one.

Yet to see a replay but in realtime I thought "that lad is in trouble". Wasn't malicious (again in real time) but it was hefty.

Mostly proud of Down today. Sligo were very much up for it - credit to all involved - and it took every last drop to see them off.

It was a game deserving of a full house lol.

Down would frustrate the hell out of you. They create enough chances to win two games. So many very simple errors. And a near refusal to take simple points, instead overcomplicating it with extra passes inside.

I also disagreed with a lot of the goal attempts. It was a really tight game and each point was vital. We could easily have knocked over points instead of trying really difficult goal chances that failed to produce any benefit.

Every single game I find Myself screaming.Just take the point, over and over

Did anyone see a replay of the res card yet. It was the winning of the game. To be a straight red it would have to have intent or reckless aggression.

Seen a still of the collision. Sligo lads arm was up at Savages face. Not sure whether it was this impact or the impact to the ground that caused the KO

Horrendous challenge, swinging arm full belt onto the chin. Lad was limp before he hit the ground. Cast iron red.
Down penalty on the other hand was a poor decision. Threw himself down when felt contact, it wasn't a foul. Sligo one point up at that stage.

For me Sligo were going to win that game if they kept 15 men on the pitch. The penalty was soft and even with the extra man Down needed it to win that game. I would still fancy Down in the final however, last year they let a big physical team squeeze the life out of their kick outs and win. I think Laois are a bit similar to Meath in that respect. We will see have Down learnt anything.

When you say penalty was soft do you mean it wasn't aggressive. The Sligo defender was pulling Ryan McEvoy's shirt. The rules are fairly simple, pulling the shirt is a foul. What's soft about a clear foul on a player through on goal?

He did go down easy, that's true, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a foul.

The lad has a broken jaw that requires surgery, duty of care to your opponent and all that!

This is probably not the final the gaa needed for the promotion of the competition.Hard to get excited about a final where one team beat other by 22 points the year previous scoring 8 goals in the process. Antrim have pushed Down hard over the last few years in their meetings and it being an Ulster derby would have given some more interest to it,but they couldn't get job done unfortunately.
