Quote from: marty34 on August 22, 2025, 11:59:21 AMSurprises me how many young people know the songs of The Wolfe Tones and Irish Brigade etc.

The crowds at TWT's set at Electric Picnic was crazy
.

The young ones loved it.

A peak crowd for them in their long career.

Streets of New York is a great song, but seriously lacks a chorus

Interesting comment. I actually think it's a perfectly constructed song and would rate Liam Reilly (RIP) highly as a songwriter. The band Squeeze were masters of crafting songs with no chorus, Up the Junction being a class example. Bono also known to dabble in the auld free verse.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but a band I've been listening to recently is James.

Listened to 'Sit Down' then I started listening to their other stuff.

Very good.

I'd think the inherent beauty of the Streets of New York is that it's a story told in song. It's one of those songs that everyone can join in for a verse or two, then because the flow is so consistent, they they feel they have to continue, mumbling along, getting a word or two right here and there. Like Maggie May. A great song.

Seen them live for the first time as part of the Forestfest two years ago. They were very good, Tim Booth's energy and stage presence really stood out.

At the time, this was supposed to be their last ever song played live. That has changed but this still gives the chills.

Are we advocating putting  James on the to-do list  then?

How about Taylor Swift?

(Quit ya jibba seems  keen to do her)

Point of order, no 'Sometimes' , probably the greatest acoustic indie tune of all time?

Nevermind BoF, Moving On, Getting Away, Bells, Come Home, Seven, Destiny, Bells....

Quote from: gallsman on August 22, 2025, 09:13:54 AMPlaying a festival, especially something like the Feile that has its own buzz about it with prime doing lots of different stuff, is one thing. Pretty much everyone there is from West Belfast. They're not travelling from far and wide to see the Wolfe Tones.

Selling out an 80,000 seater stadium (with everything it takes to put on the show there) is a very different prospect.

Wouldn't happen in a million years.

Ye reckon do ye? ...
