Genocide Organ

I liked the American Recordings with Rick Rubin best.

1. When The Man Comes Around
2. The Mercy Seat
3. Give My Love To Rose.

The only one I didn't get is "VI" - anyone know what that's like? Always had the impression it was just trying to cash in after he'd died.

tonto1888

a few to choose from

Cocaine Blues
Folsom Prison Blues
Hurt

pretty obvious ones there but I am not the most knowledgeable on his catalogue. I do like jackson but not sure if thats his  or June's song

VI is a bit depressing, the power of the voice has gone. While the previous Recordings had Cash raging against the dying of the light, here the pilot flame has pretty much gone out and a session to far.

In hiding

#1593
3. I still miss someone
2. A thing called love
1. One piece at a time

also love "The one on the right is on the left"

In hiding

There once was a musical troupe
A pickin' singin' folk group
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They were long on musical ability
Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended
A hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear the folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy on his rear, said, "Oh dear"

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a bank
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right's an all-night deejay
And the guy in the rear got drafted

Checked out  the left and right song. Enjoyed that  one. Never heard that one before

Such a great song. I'd have picked but saving should songwriter Kris Kristofferson make Austin's list.

We'll put it out there  to see others opinion.  (We can't  risk another OCS)

Quite a few have been recommended in the last couple  of weeks. Still  no strong opinions  either way for them  though

We're going to  need more recommendations soon though

Kris is one of my favourite songwriters and although he barely had a note in his head, his voice had character, and his originals always outstrip the much vaunted covers for me.

But I would think his catalogue for general public votes would amount to his 3 well known songs, and whilst he may have been suited for the 3Arena, he very much would miss my "full house at Croke Park" criteria.
