"I was interested to hear what Sir Alex has had to say yesterday, and surprised by some of it. It is absolutley true, my agent and I have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract. During those meetings in August, I asked for assurances that the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world.(?) I never had anything but complete respect for Manchester United football club . How could I not have done, given its fantastic history, especially its last 6 years, which I've been lucky to play a part. For me, it's always about winning trophies, as the club has always done under Sir Alex Ferguson. Because of that, I think the questions I ask were justified. However, when I met with David Gill last week, he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad. I then told him I would not be signing a new contract despite recent dificulties. I know I will always how Sir Alex a huge debt, he is a great manager and mentor who has helped and supported me from the day he signed me from Everton when I was 18. For Manchester United's sake, I wish he could go on forever because he is a genius."

Good comeback from the Rooney camp but it only says what we already knew, that United have been going backwards since 2008 and have no money. The real question though is that really why hes going or has his head been turned by money? Mind you anything that heaps pressure on our esteemed owners is okay by me
if it puts pressure on the glazers and gets the green and gold started again then good this is the straw that broke the camels back the glazers have to go

I think I heard that the sell on clause is 25% of the fee above the £27m that United paid for Rooney! So if United get £57m they will have to pay Everton 25% of £30m.
That was never a square ball!!

Apart from the one moment of magic not a lot else to report in that half!  4 goals & 8 assists in 11 games for Nani this season not a bad return for a winger

So here's a thought (maybe a brain fart), what if Sir Alex is pulling the strings here.
Liverpool get rid of their debt, United buried in it.
Sir Alex doesn't want to be seen as the one to push on the yanks, wants to play the party line blah blah but has no cash to spend on players
Rooney's contract coming up and one of the big assets, as well as current icons, of the club. Sir Alex has a chat with Rooney and....
By putting out this story its going to put pressure on the Yanks, after all they will potentiall loose a massive amount if he goes. So do they sell now with Rooney still on board and get out with something or let him go and see the team fall to a mid table team for the next few years thus loosing more money.
It could be a last throw of the dice by Sir Alex to force the yanks out & try get some cash (even though he's playing the party line about having money but there is no evidence of it) . If the Yanks are smart now is the time to leave, Rooney and Sir Alex on board are worth 100M on the valuation - he Rooney goes, Sir A retires and they have a mid table team then they stand to loose big!
I just get a sense that there's something else going on here in the background, with Sir Alex and Gill in the mix I have a feeling they're up to something. Neither Sir Alex or Rooney are coming across as the bad guys here but it's evident that the root of the problem is the owners.

Just a thought........

Lukewarm affair tonight but a win was needed & they delivered! slight improvement from last year when United lost at home to Besiktas

United will still need to win in Turkey

Marriage has done little for your maturity levels it seems.
