The Ronaldo saga has went quiet for a few days, a bit of work going on behind the scenes to secure his services for another while yet maybe? ;)

Though you did not want him.

I see you and Real are both after a young striker now, interesting. Maybe a hands-off and we'll talk to you about Ronaldo.

From Sun sport but interesting!!

SOCCER superstar Cristiano Ronaldo DOES want to stay at Man United, his big sister revealed last night.

Boutique owner Elma Aveiro said the Old Trafford idol had told family and friends he would resist the temptation to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have offered to "break the bank" to sign him.

The Portuguese hero's heart belonged to the Red Devils, she said.

Elma added: "Cristiano wants to keep playing at Manchester United. Real Madrid keep making very strong advances for him. There is a lot of speculation in the newspapers all the time about where he will go and what he is doing.

"But we know who he really is and what he is really up to. He wants to stay at United."

The 34-year-old added: "As long as he is happy where he plays, we don't mind where he is. We are a very close, simple family and we are very happy we have a brother like him."

Elma spoke to The Sun at her upmarket CR7 shop in Funchal, Madeira, which Ronaldo bought for her two years ago.

She said: "Lots of people come into the shop asking about whether he's going, but I don't know for sure. He tells me he likes Manchester United and everybody here wants him to stay there."

A long-time family friend, who did not want to be named, said: "Cristiano likes to play for Manchester United.

"He has a private plane to get to see his mother or his girlfriend so it is not a problem for him to stay in Manchester."

Ronaldo, 23, and girlfriend Nereida Gallardo, 24, have been soaking up the sun in Italy.

AF, Gill et all look good as they held their ground etc, CR7 gets a better contract etc

Just a theory .......

Just thinking there - The CR7 thing will be dead in the water if he goes to madrid

Shrewdness

Word today is that United are still claiming that Ronaldo will not be sold this summer, regardless of what Madrid may offer.

If he was sold, United are afraid about the message it sends out re player power etc, and how this could affect their own squad.

David Gill has urged the Glazer's to hold firm, not sell Ronaldo and not to offer him an improved contract. He claims that this would be a victory for the club over player power.

It seems many clubs are watching this situation from the point of view of how the same thing could happen to them.
It's believed that several leading European clubs, one of which is Barcelona, have contacted United and urged them to stand firm in the face of player power. Barcelona probably have another agenda, which is the dread of seeing Ronaldo in La Liga next season in Madrid's white strip.

Ronaldo is to have his operation next week and will be out for 4-6 weeks.

Ronaldo was scheduled to have his ankle operation in Amsterdam this morning (Monday).

United back on the pitch next Saturday against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in game to mark 25'th anniversary of Aberdeen's 1983 ECWC victory.

Seems that Carlos Queiroz is set, yet again, to walk out on United to replace Scolari as Portugal boss. As this will be his second time to leave United, he should never see the inside of the place again, even if Fergie sees him as a potential successor.

He could be replaced as Fergie's assistant by Brian Mc Clair, a true United man.

How do the United fans feel that Ronaldo may stay now ? I saw a letter in the Sunday Times yesterday, the person was wondering how the headlines would read this summer......."Over rated showpony offloaded to Real Madrid" or "Worlds best player stays at Man Utd"........
"When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us"

Goats Do Shave

It's pretty obvious he's a first class talent & no UTD fan wants to lose him - he's a pleasure to watch, both on TV & in the flesh!!, however, if he doesn't want to play for Manchester United, the European Champions - then cherio!

I'm delighted he hasn't had the same threats that Stevie G had when he flirted with Chelsea a few years back - how did you feel back then?

If Quieroz does go I hope McClair gets the gig, always liked him as a player, dont know much about his coaching ability though

There was no threats, alot of Internet warriors sounded off and Sky got one person to burn a shirt on the tv. This one with Ronaldo has a bit to run yet, Stevie G got very close to leaving, Ronaldo isn't even in the home straight yet.

There was graffiti death threats... & threats on his family!

I think Ronnie will stay, Huntelaar will arrive and it will be back to business come September.

If Chelsea get Kaka though they are going to be favourites for the league
