Manchester United vs the top 6 this season:

6 points from Arsenal
4 points from Liverpool
3 points from ManCity
3 points from Chelsea
3 points from Tottenham

Very disappointing return from Liverpool and Spurs.  Usually a banker 6 points from both.
United haven't got 6 points v Tottenham in a season since 2011/12. And only 4/6 once since.

Unfortunately facts are one of the main casualties in these soccer threads most of the time. Since Ferguson left United have only finished above Spurs once (looking like this season will be twice) and last year trailed them by a whopping 17 points.

What have Spurs won....League Cup 07/08 ....they are miles behind United

They haven't half the resources of United. Last year they got 86 points which apparently would be a great total this season but was shit last season. Sometimes I'm embarrassed.....

Cup wise, last season was an improvement on previous managers... this season points wise and position in the league better again, potential of winning FA cup also.. disapointments, going out against weaker teams in the other cup games, and finishing so many points off the champions, City!

Style of play is poor against the top six, but this season Utd have played better against them and scored well in that table, is this an improvement on previous managers? I'd say it has been.. is the potential there to challenge City next year? I don't know, as City have ripped up a lot of records this year..

Utd's squad this year has been unlucky in parts, with a few injuries and Jose not knowing his best team, some games were lost/drew as Utd sat back and didnt go for more goals while dominating the game..

Maybe Jose comes across and a miserable cnut, I think its more of a panto villian to be honest and he's probably a very nice guy, certainly a driven one which may work against him
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Thats true but equally Utd picked up points in matches, particularly against the other top teams they should never have got. (city should have been out of sight at half time etc). You can always dissect a season looking at the what ifs. As a Liverpool fan I look at the amount of draws we had in matches that we dominated that had controversial refereeing decisions that cost us points (Watford/Everton/Stoke/Spurs off the top of my head).  All too often it was defensive slip ups that cost points. I would expect the league to be tighter next year because i would expect United and Chelsea to strengthen significantly in the summer. Liverpool will also strengthen but I'm not sure they will improve as much because even if Salah stays you cannot expect another epic season from him next year. City will strengthen as well unfortunately, particularly in defense but as long as the bigger teams can pick up some points against them (something that they all failed miserably in the first half of the season,) the gap should be more manageable at this time of the year.

I agree on their budget but that should not be an excuse for failing to win a trophy, they've put a brilliant team together on a small budget which on paper was the best team in the league in 15/16 & 16/17. This generation will never have a better chance of winning the league, could be another 15 years before Spurs have a team of that quality. Poch has disappointed me, lacks the winning mentality currently, appears to make excuses before every big game.

Think Spurs lack real ambition .....can see them sell Kane, but if they don't they need to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham have never taken 6 points in a Premier League season from United.

Tottenham have choked again this season; it's now 8 straight FA Cup semi-final defeats.

Tottenham have went backwards this season; will have a lower league position and points tally than last season.

None of which is relevant to or contradicts the post you quoted...

The above points are all very relevant.

Agree 100%. The could have won those two leagues and at least should have won one of them. They buckled at just the wrong times. And it looks like a trend.

You won't find Jose's teams buckling in those situations lads, not many managers around like that.

Well no, they're not. It was pointed out that saying Spurs are a handy 6 points for United was nonsense given that it hasn't happened in six years. You then responded to that post with a load of statements about Spurs not being great. Feel free to to point out the relevance.

Losing to a very poor Sevilla in a CL last 16 would be eminently comparable.

Given the way we've responded to going behind against Chelsea, City & Spurs makes for more disappointment with the Sevilla result, suppose the difference in that game was their goal came midway through the 2nd half.
