Tidy win. Pogba must surely be the PL leading striker of the woodwork this season?

He seems to hit it almost every game. I seem to remember it Ronaldo's first full season he hit the woodwork a ridiculous number of times also. It's good because while I thought Pogba could be a contender to score a good haul of goals each season he hasn't been especially prolific thus far in his career.

I thought it was only an ok performance. Some sloppiness and the recurring failure to take chances could have cost United. There were a couple of hairy moments at the back. The two goals were offside and a late header (kudos to Mourinho for chasing another goal by different means by putting on Fellaini in the right position) but it's tough to see it being overturned in the return leg.

Big game at the weekend. A win would set United up nicely.....there is little leeway for slips following the bad start.

IF Utd qualify for the League Cup final the City league game is postponed from that weekend, should either Utd or City have a prolonged run in Europe alternative dates are few and far between. Shoehorning it into the last couple of weeks of season would leave Utd with consecutive away games at Arsenal, Spurs and City in a short space of time. It'd be a tough ask if points were required for position...

I suppose the reverse is that it only leaves 2 games against other teams in top 6 over next 13/14 games and one of them is this weekend..

I'd imagine the Manchester Derby will be re-arranged for early March if United get the league cup final. I don't think the Premier League will take the risk of delaying it to April or May because of potential fixtures as you suggest.

Its all ifs and buts at the minute but there really is limited scope for fixtures to be fitted in, the 1st 2 midweeks in March are Europa League matchdays then there is an International break then you would be back into European games again. The only date I could see is the Tues or Wed night after its originally fixed for or else its going way down the line?

Might all be irrelevant any roads :) but a potentially very tough finish in prospect.

Yeah the game at the weekend is intriguing and probably shows the importance of Carrick that he sat out last night. Real contrast in styles and actually Liverpools high intensity might play into United's hands, they are set up to attack and if he plays with some of the pace that is available there will be opportunities. Its a matter of being able to hold them out and being organised and then hitting quickly when the chance comes up.

Valencia is playing some of the best football of his career at the moment and really shows Darmain up at LB for his lack of quality. Can create a real imbalance to the team going forward. Pogba is living up to his billing now and is a monster in the MF, once he starts to add goals consistently to his game he will really lift the team.

All in all quite happy with the progress and I think the doom and gloom about the style of JM was unfounded, they are decent to watch and are creating lots of chances. Big improvement on past couple of years.

You're right, I'd expect us to beat Wigan in the cup and I expect we'll go on a decent run in Europe. We've got a big squad and which should be able to deal with it although I'd like to see another centre mid bought. We're a bit light in that department and also at right back,  I'd have played Fosuh-Mensah there against Reading but he went with Young.

I think up to and including the Liverpool and Chelsea debacles it was more than justified. Since then there has been a marked difference in team selection (both personnel and consistency) and tactics that certainly I was calling for earlier in the season. Jose has also improved his own behaviour and made less stupid, unnecessary comments to the media. To my mind he knuckled down and started doing his job rather than playing to the media - a pity it took a crisis and abysmal start for this to happen. I hope this continues....the team is playing well but just needs to be more clinical. Thing with Jose though is you fear the next blow up is only round the corner but he does seem more relaxed.

Bar it being United's worst start since 1990/91 I suppose it was fine.  ::)

Would expect a comfortable 3 points on Sunday.

Last 15 games at OT.

Mildly amusing, or hilarious if some other manager had done it...

Rojo fit for Sunday. It goes to show how things change very quickly in football when Jones and Rojo being fit for a game is seen as a huge positive....

Was watching a link someone had on Facebook with Rio Talking in his car about the game today!! He's confident of a good win!! Nil nil written all over it

No chance, there will be at least three goals scored, United with a comfortable win.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.

Pogba has been woeful so far and that's compunded it.

Muck Savage

Was Firmino not Offside leading up to the corner before the Penalty? He looked 3 yards off and the ball is going to him then Rojo prods it out for a corner.
Pogba all over the place, Valencia and Martial playing very well.

Thought that myself.  It was a funny one as the pass was so badly hit he never really reacted to it.
