Definitely agree with your first point.

I think there are 4 better teams than United this season, so 5th place might be the best they get.

What 4 teams are better than United?

Fergie knew well that the squad he was leaving behind wasn't good enough going forward and at his age he wasn't going to start rebuilding it. He was smart to retire when he did as he was going out at the top.
This implies that he handed Moyes a bundle of shite and walked off.

They strolled the league last year.

I think it is showing the level of manager that Ferguson was, that he was able to get that extra 10-15% out of the players. Moyes is not getting this and when that air of invincibility goes it is so hard to reclaim. The players have to take alot of the blame for the performances, just not been up to scratch.

I think we're seeing how brilliant Fergie was. He could turn an average to good squad into champions by his presence on the sideline.

Or by buying the most inform goalscorer in the league to paper over the cracks for a season. RVP, not fergie, won utd the league last season with some vital goals and that is the reality. He hasnt been playing as much/in form so far this season and utd are struggling for goals.

In fairness they allotted the same number of points the season before Van Persie arrived and goal scoring wasn't a problem for Ferguson teams.

Yes and they didn't win the league that season, in fact lost it on goal difference, so he bought a proven goalscorer, who scored goals, and so they won the league despite the rest of the squad. So you have backed up my point, Van Persie's goals were the difference as without them they would have had less points than the season before. And I agree ferguson's teams never usually lacked goals, but RVP was badly needed last season hence why he bought him.

I think Liverpool would settle for papering over the cracks for a season just to win the league, as would most clubs.

There is no doubt though that the league last year wasn't great.  This season City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal have improved their squads and that's why they have had a better start. Utd haven't bought anybody that will improve their squad, Moyes has inherited a squad, it isn't his, he's bought one player of note (jury still out) he will need time to work something, I doubt he'll get it though if the results continue, can see Fergie coming back lol

Yes I am sure they would, and would probably fill the cracks the following summer by adding more quality to the squad, which utd haven't done. This isn't a Utd v Liverpool or anyone else debate it is just a point about how RVP was so valuable to them last year and it is showing this season.

You def have a point regarding RVP but his contribution was not the difference in top of the league and 12th! The rest of the squad need to have a look at themselves and tighten the f*&k up!! >:(

True but let's be honest they won't finish 12th, they will be a lot higher come May.

United could have won the league last season with seventy eight points, the points dropped by City,Chelsea last season was as much the reason and if Van Persie wasn't bought Ferguson would have given Rooney or Hernández a bigger role.

Under Moyes United will be lucky if they reach seventy points this season.

RVP is far more clinical than Rooney and Hernandez is never going to be a main man, this is why they bought RVP.

RVN also done it, Cole to. Messi currently doing it for Barca and Ronaldo doing it for Real. That's how it works ffs

Indeed but RVN, Cole, Messi and Ronaldo play/ed in far better teams than RVP is currently playing in. Other players chip in with goals for them and arguably could still win trophies without them, Utd wouldn't have been near the top if RVP wasn't around, he dragged them to the title with vital goals, the players above played in teams which were totally dominant. If you don't think RVP was the difference last season, and think the teams you mentioned are on a par with this utd one, you are deluded.

Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham. Liverpool might even finish ahead of United this season.

Some of that Current United squad stealing a living playing football.
Giving Nani a new 5 year deal is a joke he should been given 5 days to find a new club more like it.
Anderson has been tried every season the past 5 in centre mid and is complete dead wood id take 500k for him in the current market.
Scholes and Giggs had been carrying that current squad for the past 5 years in the hope that theyd spend the money on ready made replacements not waiting and hoping that we could possibly produce a player within the ranks.
Possibly the best thing that could happen United is this current loss of form.hopefully they will reinvest some of the ronaldo money that was never reinvested unlike spurs who put there whole Bale stash into the squad and look every penny a better side for it

Always thought that letting Moyes bring his own coaching staff with him would be the biggest problem. Keeping Meulenstein on for another year at least should have been written into the contract. Still think however that once he finds his best 11 (I would throw the younger lads straight into the first 11) it will stablise. The importance this year is champions league qualification and maybe a good cup run or 2. Arsenal (CL) did it last year after woeful start.

City haven't been any great shakes, neither have Chelsea either.  City beat United well last week but they have been a bogey team for United ever since they came back into the premier league 10 years ago.  Moyes is at this minute afraid to put his stamp on the team and is playing the same team that Fergie played.  Once he makes a few changes (and gets the balls to do so) United will be up at the top of the league.  Not convinced by Arsenal or Spurs yet either.  At this stage I would say the winner will come from United, City or Chelsea irrelevant of initial form.  As someone else mentioned though, the worst thing that could happen is a serious spending spree by United if they do fall well short of where they should be.

Have you got flexibility in your flights? The televised matches haven't been picked yet for that weekend.
