A 15 cameo against Crystal Palace?? Thats optimism if I ever seen it.

They all start somewhere, I remember a wee skinny Portugese boy having a decent wee cameo against Bolton ten years ago and he turned out alright.

I remember David Bellion looking good for Sunderland causing United to buy him. Impossible to say at this stage.
Januzaj is quality, watched him for the U21s last year...class act. Will United be able to hold onto him should be the real question.

Seen a good debate on a liverpool forum recently about why hot young prospects from the reserves, U21's struggle to make the breakthrough.

They always seem to shine at U21 or reserve but struggle to make the step up, obviously some will and do very well. The concensus seemed to be the player they face at this level is far inferior to what they face when they play first team or even drop down a division. The % of players that will actually make the breakthrough is very small, so the likelihood is that they are playing against players who will be out of game in the next couple of years. Also the physicality faced is vast as is the pace of the game.

The moral really was that they aren't tested till they play regular first team football either at the club or on loan. Even when training with the first team squad they get found out.

But this boy does look lively on his senior games so far.

That's a very fair point and I can see it's got alot of substance behind it with the amount of academy players who actually make the step up. I'm sure United fans will remember Frazer Campbell and Liverpool Le Tallec, who were supposed to be destined for great things.
I'll be amazed if Januzaj doesn't make the step up though, his awareness on the pitch is fantastic, 2 footed, plays with his head up and rarely doesn't take the right option. He'll still be very green this year but he's as good as a prospect as United have had in a fair while...

Ah sure Liverpool are on their 4th or 5th next Gerard at this stage - Newby, Welsh, Spearing, Coady etc Plus the likes of Pacheo, Hamill, Anderson, etc. We'd have been on edge of greatness so many times  ;D

Its a fine line. Tom Ince is an example of getting games at a higher level and making the step up.

Its actually been debated recently in England about the premiership clubs having second teams in the lower leagues or even feeder clubs to develop players. Seems to do Spanish or German clubs no harm.

In the case of Germany I'd imagine its more to do with the required quota of German qualified players in the match day squads rather than a second team (although I'm sure it helps). However with the Premier League being a seperate entity from the FA it would be near impossible to enforce.

Do United and Arsenal not have European feeder clubs? United & Antwerp and Arsenal & Beveren.

Closer to home, its a huge part of the Crossmaglen success story

Whilst United and the other big teams see the League Cup as little more than a run out for the reserves,  Rodgers believed by playing a full strength side he could steal a cheap first win at Old Trafford in 4 years.  It's not quite that easy Brendan!  ;)

Hahaha I'm sure Moyes would have been content enough with another defeat indeed ;)

BennyCake

Beaten by West Brom at home. Moyes won't be there by Christmas.

It was very quiet there for a few days at the start of the week

I guess it's gonna get quiet around here again!
Well done West Brom.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.
