Simply remember Maradona playing on a team with very little support with Napoli who were a small team before and after Maradona, playing in a much tougher league. Messi was all wound up, even in after match interview giving the evil eye to the Dutch goal scorer and calling him a fool. At the end of the day it was a full blooded encounter between two great rivals, and will be remembered as one of the great World Cup games. Intimidation of penalty kickers was brutal stuff, and Dutch were worst offenders there, but it was win at all costs patriotism that makes the World Cup great. Best team won in the end.

Lots of other differences between the two aswell, some of which are the fact that Messi sustained his performances at the highest level for much longer, won far more, scored far more etc.

As for the Dutch, if they are big enough to give it then they should be able to take it too.

Maradona played in leagues when there was pretty much one nationality across the board. Messi has played against international quality defenders from across the world throughout his league career.

Yes defenders could go through the back of Maradona. But they weren't as good at football. And Maradona never got near messi'a outputs ever.

Maradona the most entertaining player I've ever seen. Maybe the best. But Messi also maybe the best too.
