Quote from: RedHand88 on April 09, 2026, 06:01:27 PMWhy Ireland chose excise cuts over a VAT reduction on fuel
The Irish government's explicit position is that a VAT cut on fuel would not reliably benefit consumers because retailers might not fully pass the savings on at the pump (i.e. they could retain some of the margin). Excise duty cuts, being a fixed per-litre reduction applied before the final price, are seen as more direct and easier to monitor/enforce pass-through. The government has publicly urged fuel retailers to pass on the excise savings quickly and has highlighted that retailers raised prices fast when costs rose.
Fair enough but clearly hasnt worked

It is a matter of detail whether they cut excise or VAT. The point is that these loonies just ignored the cut and carried on disrupting the country anyway, causing millions of Euro of damage to other people.
The cut isn't worth one f**k if the price is still €2.20 is it...
But it would have been €2.50 without it...
May get it down another bit so.

Seems one of the organisers will be joining the various organisations meeting the Minister tomorrow.

Minister Dooley says he's meeting a delegation from the representative bodies.

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Oil has come down 10%, no need to be fiddling further with the duty until we see what happens.

Hard to know what to do - really don't want to be leaving at 4/5/6 am and have a long wait
Home from Dublin Airport this evening. Grand. Signs showed that M50 was closed from Jn3.

Same today, and people having to walk for an hour on the M50 to get to their flights. These blockers really are disgusting people.

The Governnent has to go
The Government won't help the Irish people

Red is the price white would have been in the not too distant past.

Captain Scarlet

Protester who voted FG (most likely) or FF: This Government has sold us out!

Will the IFA and other organisations bring these lads along to Govt talks? Or will they know right well that these are the same lads who shout and ball and call their top table 'sell-outs' at every meeting?!

And with that even if there is a deal with the organisations they will have splintering of the splinter groups who will still refuse to budge.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

I get the feeling that taking the Flab 4 to this meeting will be like taking Enoch Burke to a court hearing.

Also pointless. One of them was saying the protests would be eased because they got to iron a shirt. Another leader on saying they would paralyse the country.

Nobody is in charge here.
