Used even 20k of the 82,300 ever get in before the end of the Minor Finals in the past?

It all depended on if their county was involved.

I don't see any other sport do double headers in the case of a Final. Especially when the main event is a sell-out!

Quote from: Blowitupref on February 24, 2024, 03:08:26 PMIt's just two rounds of matches. Semi finals probably played the week before All-Ireland finals.

Having those matches in Croke Park on All-Ireland final day will be enough incentive HQ are thinking

Could be a runner as we're talking last 2 weekends in July.
Would totally depend on player buy in.
All expenses paid weekend in Dublin, Semis Friday night in Croker?

There would be no  football the AI final weekend anyway , so players are free. So, have   semis on a Friday,  unlimited  subs.

Players just turn up and play  the game. No need for any training sessions weeks in advance. And that way , you might actually get an entertaining game without any the usual  tactics

Railway cup  final wouldn't impinge on tickets either.  Two different minor counties  as a curtain  raiser demands  those two are given a share of the tickets.  A railway/Senior AI final  double header , you still have  a big percentage of the attendees from the two senior finalists

It doesn't matter.  Giving say players from Fermanagh, Antrim , Carlow or Sligo the chance to play in Croke Park on all Ireland final day- players from weaker counties certainly deserve this honour.

It also ties in with the hurling development goals around recognition

With all due respect, it's not really appetising is it.

Washed down version to return in October to try out the new rules. How many here be interested to attend?

"An Interprovincial competition will take place this October as part of the Jim Gavin-chaired Football Review Committee's rule trials.

The competition, which is set to be played in Croke Park, will feature intercounty players eliminated from their club championships. The games will be open to the public and it is also hoped that the weekend tournament will be broadcast. It comes as the FRC continue to run 'Sandbox games' across the country.

Originally, players from counties who were no longer in contention in the 2024 championship were invited to participate in matches trialling proposals. However, recently the games have involved club sides, with Cusack Park hosting Éire Óg vs Clondegad this weekend.

The suggestions being trialled were unveiled earlier this year. They include four-points for a goal, a two-point arc, 1v1 for all throw-ins and a 'solo and go' from frees, where the fouled player can play on. The committee are also looking at keeping three players from both sides inside a set line at all times.

All of the proposals will be narrowed down with a shortlist used for the interprovincial matches. It's seven years since the last Railway Cups were played in December in hurling and football.

A staple event in Croke Park from the 1920s-1970s, the finals were held on St Patrick's Day slot for several years. The competition did not take place three times in the seven seasons before it was discontinued after issues with attendances and finding a slot in the calendar.

The FRC will draft a report for Ard Chomhairle in November with a Special Congress set for December. The trial of rule enhancements will then be in place for all 2025 competitions, including the national league and championship"

There would be a mid-season 2025 review before the formal end of the trial with the completion of the 2025 championships. It is envisaged the full adoption of new rules for Gaelic football will be in place from January 1, 2026.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

If there was interest in it, it would continue. Railway Cup in the old days was for players from Sh*te counties getting a chance to show their wares on a national level and win a chance to win a national title.

That ship sailed away many moons ago.
Trying these rules with leading players is grand but what about tge poor oul Junior B lads on a wet Tuesday night in Croghan?
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

RTÉ and TG4 will live broadcast all four of the Football Review Committee (FRC) organised interprovincial games in Croke Park next month.
The final and shield final on Saturday October 19 will be shown on RTÉ2 and RTÉ News respectively. TG4 will carry the semi-final games at GAA HQ on Friday evening, the day before.
The throw-in times and the semi-final draws have yet to be confirmed but they are expected to be 70-minute matches run on a clock-hooter basis and officiated by leading referees.
As the Jim Gavin-chaired FRC finalise their rule changes before Special Congress on November 30, the first public showcase of the changes such as the two-point score behind or on the 40-metre arc and four-point goal will be showcased in Croke Park.
Members of the public will be able to attend the matches, which will involve inter-county players whose clubs have exited their county championships will be open to the public.

I am genuinely looking forward to watching this. Reminds me of the international rules in a way - a good bit of competitive craic!

The rules changes are bonkers, good luck finding lines on a pitch and some bloke with a hooter in a club ground in April!

It will all look great with elite players in exhibition games with top refs, linesmen etc.
But yer Division 5 or under 14 game where yer lucky to have a Ref....

Maybe we could ask the ladies to find a hooter and how to use it - they've been using it for more than 25 years at this stage.

Probably have to get their help to draw an extra line or two on the pitch because lining a pitch is such a highly technical matter that requires either 50 years experience or a PHD in astrophysics but preferably both.

There is an issue with double points for long kicks etc in underage, but it should affect both sides.
On the timekeeping front, I would introduce a timekeeper but provide that the ref may do it in local games.

Genuine question as I haven't been to an u14/u16 game in ages but do they have the likes of marks (both the attacking one and from a kick out) and black cards in underage games?
