Division 2 will be more difficult next year, would be useful getting out of it. Just don't see Tyrone winning at the moment putting promotion out of reach.

Surely they'd want to avoid Tailteann Cup? Another loss wouldn't help.

Don't think their league position will change win lose or draw

They're safe enough. Probably need to get a win under their belts but relegation not likely.

Just home after a 2.5hrs analysis in my head.🤔. Thought we look very flat even in the warm up and definitely struggled to find space against the wind. Louth were camped in there and done really good job targeting Murray and Mc Guigan to give them no time on the ball, dropped a couple short and went hunting goals when point would have been more than enough to keep score board moving.

3 twos and soft enough  penalty probably left them just about happy at half time.

Rogers didn't have a great day but they seemed to be constantly trying to get him to man mark Mulroy but then try and get him to support the attack also. Impossible for him to do both.

Louth 14 gave Forbes alot of trouble and kept floating out for kickouts and then back into FF which seemed to buy him loads of space.

Mc Guigan shouldn't be our penalty taker, Glass, Loughlin, Ethan or CD all better penalty takers. Power gets you over the line most of the time and he's not the best off the ground.

Thought the wrong call was made starting Dan Higgins but if we had won the toss and opted to play with the wind it would have been the right call.

Assuming Meath are sure to be promoted and assuming wins for Derry and Louth we need Cork to beat Tyrone to leave it down to score difference as Derry would lose out on head to head with just 2 tied on points

We need Cork or Meath to lose and Derry and Louth to win.

Meath play Offaly so realistically we need Tyrone to beat Cork

If Cork and Meath win they are both up.

Here, Mulroy was in yards of space multi times, McGrogan or C Doherry should been put on him to man mark him. Had Derry done that, they won the game, Other teams pin down our danger men, we seem to think we too good to mark theres. Division 2 nxt yr, good chance u wouldnt be coming outta of it. No chance to bring McFaul bck,Lad just waiting on a call!

Missed game who marked him?

Brendan

Dont see why these calls for a McFaul return are suddenly appearing, man seems to be enjoying inter County retirement and I cant see him adding much to this team at his age

Firstly, Louth deserved to win. Sharper, and hungrier. Got their tactics 100% right.

We didn't adapt. In the first half i thought we weren't shooting because of the wind, but in the 2nd Louth were able to shoot into it, so I dont know if that was a tactical decision or if we just couldn't get enough time to shoot. Louth defence was very well set up.
Derry's defence was a bit all over the shop. Mckinless should have been man to man on mullroy, but tbh I wasn't sure who was on him. He had so much space.

Niall Loughlin was very good to be fair.

But my main gripe was the refereeing. Missed at least 2 if not 3 breaches and Louth got scores from 2 of them. in the 2nd half we had a clear 2 pointer that the umpire waved wide. we were directly behind the goals, it was def a score.
Shane should never have taken that penalty, he'd just been emptied. Niall was stepping up to take it, then glass came in and I though he was going to take it, but then Niall hands it to Shane. he didn't look confident in hitting it at all, it was a bad decision for him to take it after the hit.

on the Louth penalty,  I think it was a penalty but glass should have had the ball cleared. he rose up and had 2 hands on the ball then palmed it rather than taking the catch, the scramble for that ball led to the penalty.

we were a bit flat, but still only beat by 4 and on another day we could have won.
was always going to be a tough game down there.

Leinster is going to be a decent championship this year, not much between Meath, Louth, Dublin and kildare could cause an upset.

we might not get promoted now, but not the end of the world imo. we're still improving after last year, still building a better panel and some players still getting back to full fitness, like Higgins, mcevoy and Mccloskey and Lynch.
So its not all bad.

Seen McFaul against a middling Killeavy side most recently, him, Jack and young McDermott like men against boys. Ciaran has had a lot of bother with niggly injuries, time away from that intensity will do no harm

Mc Kinless was to start with but to be honest wasn't getting that much joy with it. Mulroy has great knack of not being involved then popping into right position.

Think Mc Faul opportunity is gone. I wouldn't put it down as a disaster of a day but definitely plenty to work on. Division 2s not the end of the world.

Are we giving Tyrone no hope against Cork?

Mario

I'd give Tyrone a good chance - they'll be desperate for some sort of performance before championship and Cork don't travel well.

I also thought McKinless was picking up Mulroy. First time I've seen him struggle this year. I'd also thought Mulroy was a bit over hyped due to his dead ball ability but he's definitely changed my opinion.

Another annoying aspect of today was how many we kicked into keepers hands.

Have to give Louth credit, they are a good side and very well drilled. I think most teams would have struggled in Ardee today.

Nobody marked him, thats the total point, Derry played there own game and nearest man pick him up, it didnt work, Rodgers was on him on and off for 10-15mins then away again up the field. McKinless didnt really pick him up either. Cant understand it.All you had do was Kieran McKeever him!
