Maybe the truth lies somewhere in between 🤝

True. I'm not too worried about promotion provided we experiment with plenty of players, so that come Championship time we have our strongest panel sorted out.

I'd agree with that mostly, but in the latter half of the league I'd rather see a more settled side in prep for championship.
McKenna cup helps this year with a couple of extra games to experiment in.

For what it's worth, I think we should be beating all those other teams in Div 2. Meath will actually be the most difficult opponent I feel, especially in Croker.
Tyrone are not as good as people think.

Any word on Odhran Lynch? I assume he's still out injured?
Anyone know who has been called up for the GK position?

Seen Odhrán Lynch on crutches on Saturday. Apparently lad surgery on his hip but sure what kind of surgery or if it was a replacement and the other hip also needs done. Probably wouldn't expect to see him back this year at that rate.

Shea McGuckin is up, hopefully scud is too as he would walk into a starting job.

Not sure what our home venue is, looks to be Celtic Park, hearing something different every day. 4 at home and a kind of neutral venue is alright

All home matches are at Celtic Pk.

What are you basing that on?

CP being the spiritual home of Derry GAA and Mal / Alan @ Derry Gaels.

Glad to see it. Owenbeg is great but CP is a far better stadium to watch the games

Big statement to make. Probably performed the best out of everyone against Kerry last year.

Maghera was Black

Overheard in an interview with Niall Morgan on Off the Ball yesterday morning that Peter Hughes is in the Tyrone backroom as S&C, our successful spell and good injury profile over those years was credited to Peter before he left for NZ Sevens. Tyrone should be further down the line and more settled than us now in their second year under MOR while we are on our 3rd manager in 3 years ye better believe they will be balls out to top D2. Meath think they can push on and see D1 as their next step but can see the royals being inconsistent especially with derby games against their rivals Louth and Kildare so will be a few teams eyeing the 2nd spot for promotion presuming most think Tyrone will top the group.

Honestly didn't expect to see Derry so low down. But maybe I should have, with participation in the city.

Add into that half the County wouldn't even be too GAA friendly, still wouldnt have thought it'd be so low

wouldn't be replacement at his age. keyhole arthroscopy for FAI and laberal tears is my guess. could be back by may/june. Might wait for other hip, can be managed with injections/rehab.

They still rely too much on the older lads who can't keep bailing them out.
Their forwards are all very similar, small and fast, but they can be marked.
They've also had a few retirements.
Now don't get me wrong, they are a good side and will be very competitive in Div2, but they are not imo, AI contenders or actually close to Kerry.
Top 3 in div 2 are Meath, Derry, Tyrone, but in what order I do not know.

Disappointing to hear Peter Hughes is back and we don't have him though!

jb77

Most of Derrys injuries were long term unavoidable major recoveries. Likes of Lynch, Murray, CD, have been carrying injuries since Hughes time. Injections seemed to have ticked CD over well enough the other two had cleanup surgeries Murray most recently. Could say McFaul has picked up a lot of injuries the past year or two

jb77

The Derry men heading for Spain soon, would be nice looking out at that weather.
