This is our county board we are talking about here so anything is possible. You can only hope major lessons have been learned over the past few years.

I know the CB are bad but I can't see how they would let Tally go without a replacement it makes no sense.

Unless Tally walked.
If that's the case there's every likelihood there's nothing in place.

O'Kane was responsible for 3/4 of them managers mentioned to create Irish News headlines.

According to CB, Tally did walk.

A week ago today and nothing announced yet would suggest that this is true.

Bookmakers have suspended betting on derrys new manager a few days ago. Meenagh was 1/3. I think that's the answer right there. Id say backroom team negotiations are ongoing right now. Gilligan the stand out option after his successful period with armagh. Enda muldoon the next as he was obviously there with Meenagh for years during the Gallagher era and knows his way of working. Im only speculating of course but I feel Tally was definitely given the morale high ground of being asked to step down as opposed to being pushed.

A call to arms for volunteer match reporters for the Club Championships...interesting to see where this goes

Doire

Worded as though Tally left himself but who knows the politics of it all behind closed doors. Anyone else hear Tally will be joining Tyrone Management team?  Could be rubbish all the same

rodney trotter

Did he not leave because the Derry co board wanted to shake up his backroom team? It was never reported that Tally was sacked.

shamrocker12

I believe he was sacked lads, although not in as many words. Players would definitely been consulted and I believe the quality of backroom team may have been a factor. By his recent interviews he was definitely gearing up for another year though and he seemed to be referencing we would be stronger next year as we were only really getting going. So I believe the Co. Board have given him the chance to walk as opposed to relieving him of his duties the way mayo did with mcstay. Again im only speculating but there's no way they have made that decision without having the man lined up. Surely they haven't done it again this year after last year's debacle. Gallagher is a no go. Meenagh is the man. Im confident he will be there in either the manager role or coach behind a front man. Either way I'll be happy. He played key role in our recent success.b

Wildweasel74

Don't know if Meenagh the man or not, he had a chance when we were stronger 2yrs ago and turned it down. What changed that mindset. Rather Tally stayed and brought in Gilligan and Meenagh with a view of Hoping Gilligan got enough experience be may been the nxt manager in 3/4yrs!

I agree there about the situation 2 years ago. Not sure why he didnt take it. Some reports were because he didnt want the manager post at that stage. Also Peter hughes the S&c coach was leaving for New Zealand as well, and the whole saga surrounding Gallagher. I have a feeling he maybe was led to believe RG would be returning and he would continue return as coach. Maybe im wrong. He probably just opted to get away from the whole mess. Im basing my guess on the fact that there's strong rumours of his return and also the fact the Bookmakers stopped taking bets last week and he was 3/10 when market closed and also the fact that surely our board cant be as naieve this time around and get the appointment done in good time. There's no doubt he'd be a popular return to some sort of management ticket.

The markets for GAA betting are so small that they automatically close if there is even an insignificant amount of money in any direction. They then have to be manually opened again.

I can't imagine there are too many betting on it one way or another, probably why they haven't reopened.

I think they are def looking at criticism here, which is fine and good to see some action but it shows there is a lack of support team around the county PRO. Also, has Derry reached out to the actual club PRO's to support?

Club pro used to put in their game reports to the Mid Ulster Osberver years ago, sorta all stopped when they ceased publication. Derry post was going well for yrs, but now u get 1 or 2 reports a game. It fell through the floor. Unlike the observer they done games inhouse reporting, and no club pros submitting match reports.
