Quote from: shawshank on May 06, 2025, 09:36:13 AMI seen a photo of a player from Newbridge whose hand was damaged apparently via a stud at the weekends game, was told who it was but don't want to report anything unless its true. I mean, I have never seen anything like in all the years involved in sport. I am hoping its not true
I  saw a photo of his hand  and you would think it  was in an industrial accident looking at it.
Yep nasty looking alright ,hopefully it's not as bad as it looks
Some details would be appreciated.
Think of the entire back of your hand cut open in an L shape about two inches wide. No malice or anything involved

What happened? Boot on the hand?

Do we know yet where Derrys games will be for the group stage? Or when will this info be given?

First game is away to either Armagh or Donegal. Second game is home to galway. Third game will be neutral venue against dublin. Possibly newry/clones/breffni

Quite happy with that. Well, ideally not away to Ballybofey again. No chance the Dublin neutral will be Croker?

I'd guess Newry. Westmeath was in Newry last year.

Five/six of the u20 squad have been added to the senior squad after they exited their championship. Can't imagine any will get gametime, but good to blood them into the setup for next year.

I'd actually expect (hope) that a couple of them would see significant game time. I think that Tally is still starting and even relying on two or three lads that haven't set the world alight for some of last year and most of this year. It appears that for some it's harder to get off the team than it is to get on. Improved competition for places would seriously help the squad.

I agree estimator. I think ruairi and Danny are definitely ready. They have the size and physicality to start. They were both involved in panel last year. With a bit of luck our lads can stay injury free and hit the armagh/donegal game flying. Closer it gets the more optimistic I become. Surely our luck is bound to change sooner rather than later. Hoping in back or my head that maybe they were targeting these group stages fitness and squad wise especially after tally was appointed so late. Maybe wishful thinking but here's hoping

What position(s) would be open to or suit R Forbes?
I'm not sure many new faces will appear in the starting 15, would be a big risk for a manager to take against Armagh or Donegal away. And if they come in for the two other matches it may be we are either desperate, hit by defections or injuries.

We already are all 3

Half back / half forward. I would be starting R Forbes and D McDermott. They are good enough and as said previously too many lads have been underperforming for the guts of a year and starting regardless. Sitting on the bench might give them a kick.

I 100% agree. Derry need to bring something new to the table. Time to shake it up a bit. Ruairi or Danny could line up at 5 or 7, 10 or 12. And with derry struggling from kickouts previously they are big strong athletic lads who could give us something different around that area. Will Anton tohill be back?

Surely the step up is too much? Especially against who are in their group

Why start players in the championship that haven't at least a league campaign behind them. Higgins was thrown in against Donegal without having many league games behind him. Starting players who haven't played any through the league doesn't make sense

The bottom line is we start the best players. If Forbes and Mcdermott are better than players who played in the league then they have to start. What the u20s will do is give us a bit of strength in depth which we didn't have in the league or v donegal. They might be inexperienced but I go with the old motto - if they're good enough they're old enough.
