Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 15, 2025, 12:52:12 AMFor the Ulster final 2023, they had 52 men listed on their panel. We were at 29.

Mayo were good at that too in the last decade.

Lost players but had guys in development squads behind ready to step in.

I'd imagine it takes an insane amount of money to maintain & is probably not sustainable in the long run. Mayo have had issues with the Revenue and we seen what happened Kildare when McGeeney left. I'd imagine the same will happen in Armagh & presumably Donegal after their saviour walks away (again).

We have 2 All Ireland winning minor teams progressing through U20's. The year above them got to an AI semi final. The players are there. We've had the Minor player of the year 2 years running. We'll be a force to be reckoned with in a few years.

Newbridge Exile

Kevin Quinn from Kilrea named on the bench today ,he must have came through from the development squad

Noticed him, paddy quigg and pj mcaleese sitting beside each other on the bench.

Assume these 3 are on this "development panel"

Anyone know who else is on it? Wouldve expected it to be made up of younger lads

As Joe Brolly would say has anyone a fuckin tranquiliser to put me out of my misery

Derry did okay with a weakened side. Thought we should've had a penalty for the foot block. 2 other situations with the new rules I am not too sure about. The first mayo point came when they were awarded a free, the derry player handed the ball over and the mayo player immediately bounced the ball and started running forward before giving a pass for an easy score. Has the solo and go changed to allow a bounce and go? Also Conor Doherty scored a great point near the end from outside the 45. The keeper got a fingertip to it as it went over the bar and only one point was awarded. I thought that rule had changed with the word directly removed so it should've been 2 points.

Anyone younger than 20 will be on Derry u20s or if good enough the senior squad. I'd expect it to be players of 20 plus y/o.

Heard him mentioned as being on bench, quick strong player in the club league last year.

I don't think it ever was a solo and go or a tap and go, that commentator terminology was just taken from rugby but it was never the rule, but you are allowed to just run with it once fouled

You sure? Definitely not the way I've seen it described but you are probably correct.

It is called a 'solo and go'. The rule states ' a player who is fouled can solo (Toe-Tap) immediately, within 4m of where the foul occurred, and continue to attack. If they solo & go they cannot be challenged for 4m. A solo & go is not permitted inside the opponent's 20m line'. In a Q and A it clarifies 'It must be a 'toe-tap' i.e. the ball must be released from the hand(s) to the foot and kicked back into the hand(s)'.
So you can't bounce or just run.

It is hard to be critical when McKaigue, McCluskey, McKinless, McFaul, Murray and Rogers are not in the team. Obviously Chrissy retired but a massive loss for leadership and organisation alone. Clucky, Rogers and McKinless are all stars. Add to the fact that McGrogan and Loughlin are coming back from long lay offs and you can begin to see why things have been so difficult.

Our championship hopes hinge on getting at least 3 of those players back and seeing McGrogan and Loughlin back at full fitness. Doherty has been decent at full back, McGurk looked good today. Tohill I am not a fan of starting but can add to the squad. My concern is that Tally was poor at Down and he doesn't appear to have any great in game intuition. That probably separates the best from the rest. He can set the team up OK but little tweaks in game don't seem to happen.

Let's hope we can surprise Donegal. I saw someone writing on here he would be amazed if we didn't turn them over. I would like some of what they are smoking.

I stand corrected. Thought I heard different on a podcast

Running then bouncing is a foul, has to be a solo.. Seen a few missed over the weekend.

Re Ballybofey, we really need to get as many key men back as possible to have a chance.
Few positives from today, but I don't think we're physical enough in the tackle or when preventing teams running through

Toner and Glass the pick of the bunch today. Baker had a decent game too. Good to see McGurk on, is a fine player

sometimes after reading what people say on here I wonder was I even at the same game.

Wildweasel74

Here's the biggest problem which was obvious at the game. On our kickout, Mayo man mark our players. On Mayos kick out Derry have this zonal marking shit which simply doesnt f**king work. Went the whole game didn't change it. Some players were having a mare but seen out the game. That's a serious management issue. With the goalkeeping rule now changed we need a back up keeper which is a actually keeper.
