I see Kerry's method of limiting Tohill in the second half was sending a man to push him off the spots and hold him when he tried to jump

Lockhart has to be in there. Dermot McBride was also an excellent corner back and was right up there with the best in the country in terms of man-marking.
Paul McFlyn would have to be considered.
I'd have Lynch in goals before Gillis, I can't actually think of who our other keepers were.
Sean-Leo McGoldrick was top class too.
Gilligan? Didnt set the world on fire, but was consistent and scored plenty.

Would be my team. In reality that forward line wouldn't work and i'd probably want Enda Lynn in there for his running ability.

Unused: C Gilligan, Patsy Bradley, Conor McCloskey, SL McGoldrick, G O'Kane

Maybe nostalgia has gotten the better of me there.
Not sure how McCloskey doesnt make the cut but I cant drop any of the other 6 defenders.
And it says a lot about the front 6 that cant I squeeze in Conleth Gilligan.

Personally I always though Chrissy was a disaster in CHB. Played his best football for Derry in the full back line.
Had completely forgot about McCloy - one of the better full backs of the time. Nial McCusker too for that matter. I remember him totally nullifying Star in a Div 1 league final.
We've had some seriously top class defenders in particular over the last 20/30 years.
The forward line is easier to pick as it was always where we've been in shorter supply.

Joe Cassidy
Michael McGoldrick?

Johnny McBride must be in the conversation too! Fergal Doherty carried Derry for a long time, probably first name on the managers teamsheet.

Looks like Donncha Gilmore picked up a bad shoulder injury there playing for UCD in sigerson semi final

It's on tg4 sport player. Tohill was been held bck nearly ever time on kickouts, problem is the ref was on top of the play and blew none of it, the mind boggles. Then blew one on Glass, in the 1st half for a push, u can see no push on tv, ref moves it up as Connor was turning to play the ball as he thought he had a mark. Ref give Kerry a 50m foul for not releasing the ball. and a easy point for Kerry. So he gave a few ones that u can't see on replays but the most obvious fouling on Tohill he gave nothing.

Its funny, as I've a completely different perspective on the Glass incident. Was sitting a few rows behind the Kerry bench, so was close enough to it.

It was a push in the back by Glass, nothing major but clear hands on the back. Glass attempted to give the ball back, but he was immediately pushed away by the Kerry player. It looked to the ref that he didn't hand over the ball straight away. But it was the interference from the Kerry man that stopped him from handing the ball back.

That's why he remonstrated with the linesman all the way up the pitch, then spoke to the ref and then went back to the linesman for another chat.

It almost looked like a ploy to get the 50m adv, as it happened later in the first half when Rogers was pushed away, after giving away a free, but he got the ball back to the Kerry player quickly.

But that's pretty much the only midfield free the ref give. After that it was open season on Tohill - and not one free given.
