Your first ever football boots

Am in need of a new pair of boots myself at the min. Am sick of adidas (world cup) and don't like puma king, what do you recommend. Seen a pair of canterbury books with good leather and support has anyone tried these?

A pair of Blackthorns.  I seem to remember that they were actually made in Ireland back then, Dundalk I think.  Could that be true?

They came with a load of pictures and stuff, and I think you could even write off to join "The Blackthorn Club" or something like that.  I never polished another pair of boots with quite the same fervour as I did those ones.  Couldn't tell you now if they were mouldies / good / bad / comfortable / excruciating / ..... but they were MINE.  Nothing else mattered!

100% right Biff. Blackthorns were made in Dundalk...there used to be a sign on the side of the road just past the Sportsmans Pub saying "Welcome to Dundalk...home of the Blackthorn boot". I remember my Da wanted to get me a pair but I refused because I couldnt see any of the Dubs/Kerry players wearing them on the telly...all Adidas and Puma..


Did anyone else see Seán Lowry on All Ireland Gold last night wearing a pair of Mitre boots with a big green "M" on the side

My first pair were Mitres.

After that it was Patrick boots all the way, mainly because my brother wore them, and he was cool as f**k.

Didnt have boots straight away, me ma wasnt sure i'd stick at at! She bought me Sizzlers trainers or guddies, your preference in calling the. After all the falling she finally bought me Hi - Tec hurling boots..... a size too big

The first pair I bought were  Stylo Matchmakers, as worn by Brady and Best.  they had the best leather...until thon galloot of a black labrador we had, fido no less...just to be trendy with the auld dogs' names...decided he liked the taste of the insole and duly devoured them.  fcuk I was unhappy.
Best ever...Puma S(pezial) P(uma) A(ntritt) Real.  Puma have never produced a boot like them since, imo

Assorted hand me downs till I hit the big time(u14 McHugh cup) & got a Saturday job in town of Monaghan co-op,saved like a mo fo and got the addidas litbarskis of my dreams!!
Never have a pair of boots recieved more love and care. 3 pairs of boots later didn't give a fcuk as I had discovered carlsberg and Dundalk RTC,effectively ending my football career!!
