Tough match expected this evening. Both teams have played well to date but are struggling to get the win. A draw is not great result for  either but it could likely be the result as there is very little between teams. Let's hope Down can do enough to win it..

Last game of the league before the final against Meath today for the hurlers.

Doesn't matter for Down, but I think if Meath win they can keep their promotion hopes alive.

Would have liked to see a younger/more developmental side named- I think going forward it is very important Down expand their depth- but it is a strong team named to have been playing well, with a few fringe players named.

Great to see players from Newry, Carryduff, Ballela, Warrenpoint, and Castlewellan named on the bench. Hopefully they get some game time today. McGreevy and Connolly played as well as anybody in the junior championship last year, so good to see players from that level involved with the county setup.

Meath were flying about 5 or 6 years ago, and caused Down plenty of problems back in the Christy Ring.

Hopefully Down keep the momentum going.

What a game in newry tonight. 2 evenly matched teams served up a classic. It great to get the win after so many close calls recently...

Div 2 is so competitive. It's hard on anyone relegated. Westmeath have lost last 2 games at the death. Down were done out of a point in Cavan.  Very small margins.
Hoping for a monaghan win over Meath tomorrow to see them promoted with a game to spare. Means thry would have nothing to play for next week.  It's still very likely we will go down though.

Our big hope realistically is for Cork to get turned over by Louth and Cavan. I think Cavan will do it, not confident about Louth winning in Cork though.

Even if Cork win, Louths final game is v Meath which I can't see them winning, but we would need to beat Monaghan in Clones to stay up.
If Louth win we would have the same points as Cork going into the final game, clear of them on the head to head.
Their final match is away to Cavan, we are away to Monaghan and as long as we matched their result we would stay up.

I think meath could beat louth next week. Can down beat monaghan??....big performance needed

snoopdog

Down need to beat Monaghan. If they don't they're relegated. If both win and Cork lose then it goes down to score diff. I think. Who knows.

A draw will do if Louth lose to Meath. Any result next week will be tough as Monaghan are flying last few weeks

They were in it to HT. Then hammerred after that. Tyrone have a conveyor belt of talent compared to us.

Disappointing for the hurlers last week. Suffered their first loss of the year, away to a Meath side still in the hunt for promotion.

Were well behind at halftime, but managed to reign the Royals back in, and it looked like it could have been there for the taking with a Down goal in the 72nd minute, but Meath put a free over with the last puck of the game to put the game out of reach.

Probably nothing to be too concerned about. Down already have a league final to prepare for, as well as the McDonagh Cup, and it was not a full strength Down team.

In saying that, it's still disappointing. Antrim and Carlow are realistically games Down will want to target next year to retain Division 1 status. There will be a big step up. I know it was a weakened Down team, but there will a good few of our key players on the field.

But I wouldn't be too concerned. No doubt there will be some serious work done before 2026.

Kildare beat Meath by 10 today, and will meet Down in the Division 2 final- a repeat of the first round meeting, which Down won.
