Kildare blew that. I had expected a comfortable Monaghan win but they never really got going, apart from that golden spell in the 2nd half. Pity[for my pocket] that Monaghan couldn't get the job done in normal time. I'm very glad Armagh don't have to face the Dubs next week!

Possibly some of the Kildare players were fear struck by the sight of O'Gara in the Hogan Stand, sharpening his teeth with a metal file.

Delighted with that, the lads showed great heart after a poor start. Before tonight we'd only conceded one championship goal since O'Rourke took over, so to concede two so early was a shock to the system, especially as our game is built on defensive effort and keeping the opposition to a low score.

Vinny's goal was a special score, and one we really needed. Hard luck to Kildare, it's a cliche but after a game like that it's a shame someone had to lose. They persevered until the very end, their lack of a reliable free-taker didn't help them though.

When it went to extra time the game was there for whoever wanted it, and our desire was encouraging. Some great moments in ET, like McCarron's point just after he came on, K Hughes's pass for the goal, great blocks by the 2 Hughes's at the end when Kildare were probing.

Next week will be extremely difficult, especially with the tired bodies after tonight. But we've nothing to lose in reality, not one will be giving us a chance. It's a great opportunity for our lads to go out and test themselves against the very best in a big championship game.

Stand up for the ulster men.  What's the best represented province in the next round?

There would be more Ulster teams in it if all they had to do was beat Tipperary and Sligo to get to the Quarter Finals?

Dinny Breen

Proud of that Kildare performance, well done to both teams on a great game. Best of luck of against the blue empire, great support and sound lads too.

We'll see who quick with the wise cracks when he's carving your defence open next week.

No doubt O'Gara can play good football as well :)
Whereas Kildare would be fearful of getting pasted by the Dubs, we are are (foolishly) looking forward to the match.
We haven't played Dublin in a championship game, at least not that I can remember,  only ponced about in league games.
I suppose The Dublin  board will allow us to have a few tickets for the Monaghan support?

Should be, Kildare have been one if not the most consistent teams over the last 6-8 years and that was a top performance today. Unlucky again just.

Kildare were beaten, just about, but luck had nothing to do with it.

You can have all the tickets you like.

91 years I believe since we played each other.

You're looking forward to the game because you think you can win- I wouldn't want it any other way.

Ah, the black card, hitting the post, Callanan's shot, I think they were unlucky enough.

Canavan's emphatic  final word on the matter on the Sky pundit panel, an off the cuff remark that Monaghan have no chance, mainly because of the energy sapping 90 minutes against Kildare in those conditions.
6 or 7 days is short for a team to recover from a provincial final defeat, but is it too short to recover from a hard fought victory?
I have no real idea about that, but I suspect the matter will first be decided by ability, before stamina would  come to  play a part.

I would disagree on that. Problem with fatigue is you don't know until the ball is thrown in where you're at.

Can only speak from my experience of playing 2-3 games over the course of a week.

Adrenalin will get you to certain point. But you tend to hit the wall after 55 minutes regardless of talent

The Monaghan lads were constantly running into tackles and then throwing themselves forwards with both hands outstretched which every time led to a very soft free. The ref was eating out of their hands.
