Capt Pat

Ian Huntleys life support machine has been switched off. It looks like the end for him.

All the reports on his death has "high security prison" in their articles.  How secure was it really when that was the 3rd attempt at his death where they finally succeeded.  Given the horrible crimes he committed I wonder did the Prison officers turn a blind eye to the attacks on Huntley?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Statements coming out about  they will look into  how this happened,  blah blah . How much of an  investigation will really happen?  Very little, I'd imagine .

I'd say it  took extra resources to keep him  protected from other prisoners, probably putting prison staff at risk  too.

Convenient for everyone he's gone , I suppose. He's no longer costing a fortune to keep  imprisoned,  very few  will miss  or mourn him , and the  man who  attacked him would  likely  have been  in prison for life anyway.

His sentence is now over , but the families of those two little girls are still  serving  a different sort of life sentences.

Surely High Security refers to their ability to escape rather than opportunities to clatter each other.

"High security/maximum security prison" primarily refers to keeping them inside and protecting the public from them. Internal violence is not uncommon.

75-90k a year to house the creep due to his status. £1.2 -£2million estimated cost before his sentence ended abruptly.

Zero reason they cant be executed.

The problem with execution is getting it wrong!

One problem yes and to prove Murder or murders is wrong is execution the right way to go about it?

The hardest of hard labour for evil people like Huntley and life should be life in prison, had Huntley lived he would have got out of prison before he was 70.

Is no chance he would have been released. Would have gone to parole board and a whole life order imposed in such a high profile henious crimes.
Same as the likes of Peter Sutcliffe (The Yorkshire Ripper) where trial judge recommended that he should serve at least 30 years in prison before being considered for parole. This was later changed to full life.

I remember reading about Myra Hindley , who had served 20 odd years at the time, and the decision  to grant her parole  lay with the  government minister in charge of such. Basically, each minister kept kicking the can down the road , saying  a decision like that  wouldn't be made for another 3-4 years. Each minister didn't want to be the one making the decision, so they just threw that  hot potato to the next in line, who  repeated the same line.

The backlash a minister (and government ) would have got  over granting  someone like Hindley parole would have  caused national uproar. So, really,  it seemed to be   a PR thing rather than  her being fit to rejoin society. Not sure who has the final say nowadays , but Huntley  might  have been the same, had he reached  the end of his 35-40 years  in prison.
