Not the sort of thing that should be dismissed out of hand surely? If it was your daughter I doubt you'd be quite as forgiving just because he happened to be a famous musician. The man had a reputation.
She was 19 though. Hardly Bill Wyman.

Sure enough, fair point. I have a daughter turning 19. Would I be concerned if she started a relationship as an adult with someone she met when she was 14? Of Course. But he (presumably), didn't act unaccordingly at the inappropriate time. There's subtext and nuance and they seem to have stayed quite close even after the romantic aspect. It's not like hes Anthony Kiedis at 65 banging teenagers. I am unaware of the "reputation" you mention.

But I will say one thing, he wouldn't be allowed near Eddie Vedder's daughters or wife if he was a man like that. Eddie fired their best drummer ever because he was too fond of groupies and was enjoying the fame too much. Not just because I am a fan of Pearl Jam but having followed his journey with interest - I can say he's a very strong judge of character - and considered Glen Hansard a "brother". He suffers no fools or no optics of bad behaviour as it pertains to sexual inappropriateness. Glen has dueted a few times with the eldest Vedder kid.

Never the less, the man's dead now.

Conveniently ignoring the fact that he met her when she was 13 and had talked of being in love with her for years. Ok groomer.

That's the take?

Hardly conveniently ignored. Apologies, it was 13. Not 14.

Puckoon

I'm not gonna get dragged into a gutter conversation about being ok with Grooming, that's low brow. I know you are spicy and like to punch down at folks on here - but there's no take where I said that was ok.

gallsman

Apologies. I was replying to the buck eejit who weighed in with "he started a relationship with her when she was 19" as if that was the story.

As for "that's the take?" you're the one describing anyone daring to raise an eyebrow at the man's character as a result of his untimely death as "hand wringers".

Tony Baloney

Gallsman apologising. The world is healing.

Thanks for the correction. It was right after my post and took exception to the name Groomer.

Not worried about raising an eyebrow, I think as we age we all need to check our beliefs and phrases and behaviour to Women and society in general. We should have outgrown the "Rule 1" mindset that permeated this board for years.

It's all over threads and social media engineered platforms and appears to be out there for "take" and "content", but the world is changing and opinions once held are no longer OK.

I don't know what the f**k Glen Hansard and the young lady had together as a bond, and it's not something I could ever really understand or engage in. I just have a sense that if it was wholly inappropriate, in the context of the post Harvey Weinstein era - had it been egregious, she might have used her platform to say something about it.

But WTF would I know.

EDIT: Perhaps Hand Wringing is the wrong phrase. I am not convinced in all times of the genuine nature of social media accounts and discourse..

Note that I had said nothing whatsoever until you and Puck weighed in with your "hand wringers" and "sad cases" comments.

Don't ruin your apology.

But it is the story. The rest is you bedwetters trying to sully someone out of general principle because you have to be edgy.

He did absolutely nothing wrong, she hasn't claimed anything was untoward and they remained friends and collaborators long after they broke up. But you carry on and be outraged on her behalf.

These days, if you're a man theyll arrest you and throw you in jail.

Well said, hard to credit we're still living deep in the valley of the squinting windows some 110 years since, still whispering the same old innuendoes.
