Glenn Ryan has stepped down as manager of the Longford senior football side after five seasons in charge.

So from a Longford perspective, what was the verdict on his 5 years?

Not on the coaching or management side. Padraig Dunne has complete control of the seniors.

Big game for them on Sunday.

I'd love to see Glenn back involved in the Kildare underage setup again.

Thought he did an excellent job for our neighbours. Few resources, a big soccer team in the main town, lots of factors working against Longford but Ryan had them preforming well almost throughout his reign. To be relegated from D2 with zero points wasn't a true reflection on where Longford are, indeed with even a smidge of luck they'd have had four points.

Anyways, Longford had a very good U16 team last year and their U21s this year were an excellent group. There's pieces to build with in the years ahead. If they find a manager as good as Ryan they'll be doing well.

Massive, I know we have a safety net but would do the confidence good and give us a bit of momentum going into a Q/F.

JTB despite the players are intermediate for a reason.

I know from a Mayo perspective Ryan's Longford knocked us out of the championship three years ago.  Only three players who played that day are not involved with Mayo now!

David Clarke; Chris Barrett, Ger Cafferkey, Keith Higgins; Donal Vaughan, Trevor Howley, Kevin McLoughlin; Seamus O'Shea , Pat Harte; Andy Moran , Aidan O'Shea, Alan Freeman ; Conor Mortimer , Barry Moran , Alan Dillon

If McGeeney goes would Kildare consider him for the senior team?

WHEN Mc Geeney goes, as an outsider, I believe he would be a very popular appointment.

And that year Kevin Walsh's Sligo knocked Mayo out of the Connacht championship. Glenn Ryan for Sligo, Walsh for Longford?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Sorry to see Glenn's time come to an end but no great surprise, took us as far as was likely. The lifecycle of current team might be drawing to a close before some of the U-21s from this year make the step up. Definitely made the team more organised, some might say defensive but ultimately progress wasn't made in championship, despite the success in the league with back to back promotions and titles.  Might have been a case that he didn't get the luck needed, with some close defeats and extra time losses but there was a missed opportunity against Wexford last year to win two games in Leinster back to back and progress to a semi final.

Don't think we progressed to round 3 of  the qualifiers under his leadership either, but that could be more the fault of the competition than the manager!

Can only thank him for his work and wish him the best for the future, surely he'll get a shot at Kildare job in time...

Cannot disagree with anything Qwerty says there.

I don't have any direct contact with Glenn and I am sure he is not a reader but just in case I want to say thanks and I wish him all the best in the future. I hope he gets a 'next tier' county soon. Not sure if he'd go to Kildare - perhaps there would be some resentment in some clubs, I dunno.

The search is on now for a replacement - if I hear any whispers I will inform ye boys and girls.
