Quote from: tyrone08 on January 24, 2026, 07:42:13 PMThere is too much talent in this tyrone team to be playing like this. If we dont get an ulster title or an ai semi final i would say its a failure.

Obviously its early days but Malachy needs to massively step it up.
Malachy all talk and emotion no tactics no plan.

After 21 years of tactics we are back to 1985. Clueless and crap backroom with the best underage players in Ireland and can't beat Kildare with 14 losing one of their best for half the match. Shambolic  farce.

Given that Malachy helped design the new rules i had hoped that he would take the regins and develop a fast attacking game plan. He was given a pass last year as he it was his first year but he needs to step it up asap.

If tyrone have a poor year i would be in favour of getting rid of him. Too much talent to be wasting another year of the players career's.

I know its only the firsr proper day out but other teams have hit the ground running and we have already stalled.

Quote from: Hand of God on January 24, 2026, 08:31:03 PMWe were missing the following tonight:

Teague
Hampsey
Devlin
McGeary
O'Donnell
Ruairi Canavan
McCurry

With Canavan, Kennedy and McElholm off the bench.

It's a fair base to our spine there tbf. There is also the complacency that maybe relates to playing on Div 2. I thought McKernan for instance tonight played nowhere near his normal levels. Seemed to unusually casual. Think it's a good while since we were last in Div 2.

On the basis of tonight is probably be looking at a team this summer when all are fit:

Morgan

J Clarke
Hampsey
Devlin

McKernan
Teague
McGeary

Kennedy
Kilpatrick

Oguz
McElholm
AN OTHER

Jordan
Darragh
McCurry

The half forward line is without doubt the biggest worry.

Daly and Donaghy offered nothing tonight. SOD blows hot and cold.

Think Daly's decision making let's him down at times. That last shot he had on his left foot should have been passed to Darragh off his shoulder and Darragh would have been coming onto his right foot with no defender in front of him. Basically a guaranteed point. He isn't the only one though

Can't be playing that half back line. Need to get these players in. Cullen, Ronan Cassidy and Conor Oneill should be in. Hampsey needs to play a few games to be considered again as has played little football

Dire Ear

Terrible night for the manager on the line;  terrible

southtyronegael

Another frustrating tyrone performance. Poor crowd and poor weather left things a bit flat. Morgan was a clown show. Few new lads done well so hopefully things can improve and they really need to.

Mikhailov

Quote from: Hand of God on January 24, 2026, 07:42:28 PMEndemic of the Malachy era. As was mentioned by a few on here pre game there just doesn't seem to be apparent style of play. It seemed to rely on getting to ball to Canavan or McElhom in the second half to do anything.

There's a lot of talent in the squad and we should be getting far more out of the team right now.

Joey Clarke and Jordan had fantastic debuts. Cassidy showed up well. Donaghy and Conroy really poor.

Morgan had a horror show out there. McKernan and Donaghy were miles off it too.

Strange game. Personally I thought Cassidy had a good game also until another man told me his direct opponent hit 0-9, albeit there was at least 1 two pointer in that plus a free kick but I feel sorry for Cassidy.
Has played 99.9% of his career in the inside line then all of a sudden put in the HBL at county level - very strange.

Only the Donaghmore men will know but I would be shocked to hear if he has ever played in defence for them at any level from U12 upwards, never mind their senior team.

I wonder how the sub defenders feel when a player who doesn't play defence gets a start ahead of them.

In the old rules, you could understand it (possibly) but under the new rules it is all 1v1 and the defender must be able to defend. Any defender has little or no cover most of the time unless the play is slowed up but if the play is sharp and fast (as the rules were designed for) then the defender must be able to defend 1v1.

Cassidy deserves a run in the position in which he is best at - up front. He is a quality forward and deserves the opportunity to show it

Knock Yer Mucker In

You do realise that Cassidy man scored 5 of those pts after he was taken off and Frank Burns came on fir the final ten minutes!
local expert is as sick as a dog, ate to many mc dollars

ONeill

Saw a few positives there in poor conditions for both. Thought Tyrone were more direct than last year, albeit handling was tough out there. There was one score in the first half that saw 6-7 passes from the Kildare FF line to a Tyrone point, within 10 secs. More of that. Had McCurry been out there, we'd have won.

Morgan had an error-riddled game but also think conditions didn't suit his game, as well as a bit of rustiness.

Could you imagine if half the posters here were posting in 2003 when we lost to Roscommon in the first game, or 2008 when we also drew with Kildare. MICKEY OUT.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Who would you be replacing him with out of interest? MOR has a great track record as a manager who's careers is he wastin? It's the first round of the league and up to ten players not playing for one reason or another alot of overeaction on here.

omagh_gael

One thing that would worry me is the lack of physicality in our forward line, from all our u20 wins there aren't many 6ft plus big men coming through. Kildare had a number of lads who were big units with speed who quite easily got round our man markers.

scout

Beat by a team who weren't even in the sam maguire last year!

Apologies lol.
* Failure to beat a team coming up from D3 & tailteann cup.
