Quote from: Substandard on June 23, 2024, 12:35:29 AMDidn't think we had it in us to win today, even if this Tyrone team is a shadow of past outfits.  A woefully flat first half for Tyrone,  and we avoided our customary 2nd half slump.  A lot of great Tyrone players showed a lot of mileage in the legs today, and a year or two for some very bright young prospects to get up to speed.  Success and achievement are relative, ye have been at the top table, but today is a high water mark for our lads.  Hopefully we can give it a rattle next week, and maybe even get another day out.

Roscommon were excellent and deserved their win. In truth it would have been a travesty had Tyrone managed to win or take it to extra time at the end. Wish the Rossies all the very best. Hard to go straight back out next weekend but Armagh a pretty average team so not impossible.

Don't think great Tyrone players showed too much mileage on Saturday though. Morgan and Donnelly were key men this summer in keeping a rudderless ship on some kind of course. That's 3 seasons of terrible Championship performances and huge underachievement from a team sadly lacking in direction. It's very unfortunate that 3 years of having a very capable set of players have been wasted.

The only positive this year is that plenty of youngsters have gained experience. Now crucial they have a new management team in place to help them kick on.

Is that the extent of who would possibly be available/elegible?
Surely a man completely forgotten about is Ciaran Meenagh. He was there at the start of Derry revival with Mcerlain and is credited within Derry of being behind the defenive structure that has served them so well

Enda Mc Ginley  - You having a laugh

McGinley has the communication skills and has a positive enabling view. Tally has the hard edge and tactical nous. If strength and conditioning is got right with both young and old in squad they could be great leaders complimenting eachbother.

It's been an open secret for years, and anybody close to players knew as much - morale in camp bad, and has been for years, key senior players not even on speaking terms with Dooher; Dooher has pets and has zero people management skills ("shouts at people the way you'd shout at a herd of cattle") is what I heard); some of the best players in the county will not even consider going near the squad (despite being asked).  They got a new management bounce for the AI win; but once covid relaxed and okayers had a spell of prolonged contact with Dooher and found out what he really was like, then the wheels came off.  Tyrone has been in denial about this for the last few years, excuse after excuse.  A manager does not win games, but he certainly is responsible for morale and enthusiasm.  Tyrone playing at the weekend were, as the Irish News noted, "lethargic", no interest, and like men waiting to be put out of their misery.  In particular, the likes of Canavan, Mattie Donnelly and Niall Morgan, professionals to their fingertips, deserve better than this ongoing dysfunction.  If there isn't a change of management announced very shortly, I'm officially in despair.

Currently involved with other counties (that I'm aware of!)
Paddy Tally - Kerry
Ronan O'Neill - Fermanagh
Justin McMahon - Antrim
Ciaran Meenagh/Mickey Donnelly/John Devine - Down
Mickey Harte/Gavin Devlin - Derry
Stephen O'Neill - Cavan

With one obvious exception, is there not a potential team of men from there?
Tough times don't last, tough people do!

Wouldn't pay much heed to 'open secrets' and a man told me but I do think is time for new management. Just isn't happening.
As for throwing teams of management together not sure we can assume who would gel together. Am very taken with idea of O'Rourke and Porter tho. Tried and tested.

Can honestly see them staying for their full term. They are not taking any money for it and i cant see the county board looking to fork out big money for new management especially when its cost them very little so far

Tyrone Dreamer

Would it not be harder to raise money though if the county team are performing so poorly so consistently? Surely there has to be ambition to get Tyrone back up with the top counties again?

LC

With Dooher now being the top vet in NI and Logan's health scare regardless how far they progressed this year I was always expecting this to be their last year.

There is an important precedent here
In September 2002, Art McRory RIP informed the CB that he could not continue due to health reasons
Eugene felt the job automatically was his, as there was one year left on their joint term. Not the case, it went back out to the clubs and the rest is history

This will go out to the clubs again for nominations

Same all over the country. Too many games. They're overkilling the championship. Games overlapping on TV as well. I went to Clare game in Omagh £22 for an endurance test. Another trip to Croke Park next week if they'd won.. ffs!
Going to all my clubs senior games, men and ladies, and they had games on Friday and Sunday.
Give us a break. There's far too many county championship games. Jees! Derry have lost 3 times and are still there. Nah, too much to take it all in...
and Tyrone - Roscommon not exactly enticing. Don't think the Tyrone players could even get motivated for it!

We must have one of the worst support in the country. Especially for a div 1 side.

- style of play
- thoughts that the best county players are not all involved
- all on tv

Now when they need a bit of support the support has dwindled which is v disappointing. However the club league games are v well attended

It's time for Owen Mulligan to step up.  He's wasted in punditry.  I'd like to see him and Sean Cavanagh take the reins
